I applied at a company for an accounting clerk position. They posted that I could just submit my resume at any of their branches or at their main office. So happened, I just live near the main office so I went there and submitted my resume. To my surprise, I was a bit discouraged the moment I entered their premises. I told myself, "I couldn't withstand it here." The office was secluded and the building didn't have a very good ventilation from natural light.
After a week and a half, they scheduled me for an initial interview at one of their branches. So I went there for my sake: to practice and hone myself in answering interview questions. And the experience discouraged me even more.
So the interview question started with the usual, describe yourself. It later lead on to a few more. And the part where I got hesitations went like this:
Interviewer: "Are you willing to work over-time? Say like 5hours. Or just 3 hours na lang. Without pay?"
Me: "That wouldn't work. Since that would be against the labor code."
Interviewer: "Say do it as a charity. And what if its the company's policy?"
Me: (Char answer. With a skeptic smile. Giving the interviewer what is needed to be heard)
"I guess I'll just charge it to experience then considering I still don't have any."
Interviewer: "Okay. So how much is your expected salary?"
Me: "The minimum of 9,500 to 10, 000"
Interviewer: "On a daily basis?"
Me: "Here in Cebu, about 305 pesos."
Interviewer: "What if it's below minimum? Uhm.." (interviewer was still thinking) "Say like 205 pesos?"
Me: "Again that would be against the labor code, and you do submit DOLE reports right?"
Interviewer: (Smiling in a perky manner) "Yes, we do."
Then came a few more questions.
After that interview, I really told myself I wouldn't attend the final interview. It was my first time to encounter such silly initial interview questions. It may just be a psyched style and to really see how determined an applicant is to work for the company. But that was way too much example. WHAT IF THEY'LL DO IT?
I did got a text scheduling me for a final interview at the main office, but I didn't reply for confirmation.
So if you were in my shoes, would you have attended the final interview?
