Default Rumored 2014 Mazda MX-5 Miata

If this is how the new Mazda MX-5 Miata would look like, then as early as now I would make a reservation for 2 units. Hehehe... One is for my daily driver and the other, well, a little decoration in the house would not hurt right? Oh wait, do I have enough money for 2? Man, I forgot I just spent all my money on a freakin' cellphone! Bummer!

Seriously though, I think that Mazda, with this concept, is headed in the right direction. This "Kodo", or Soul of Motion, design of theirs is amazing. The CX-5, the first to adopt this styling is already out in the market and I must admit that it doesn't look all that stunning. Maybe because the curvaceous design doesn't fit the crossover segment that well. I think this Kodo styling is more suited with sports cars and sedan segment. The MX-5 is the testament to this. It just looksamazing. The menacing front end, the slit-like headlamps, the bulges of the wheel arches, the fluidity of the body panels... They all just fit together rather harmoniously. And the outcome of a harmonious design is a very good looking car.

Looks, I know, is not what a great car is all about. Reports said that this baby would only come with a small 1.3L turboed 4-cylinder powerhouse which would roughly deliver the same power as the previous Miata about 167 bhp. This bit of information is rather disappointing. I mean, COME ON! You are making a car that seems to have the potential to be another best seller like its predecessor and you are just giving it a 1.3L engine. I don't mind not having a turbo. Give me a good 2.0L NA engine and I'll be happy with that. At least there could be more ways to get better performance from it.

I am not concerned about the handling though because I know that the current MX-5 is a real driver's car. So if they'll just stick with it and not mess around a lot then I know it would still come out as a car with top-notch handling.

Really, if Mazda really makes this right, they could totally be a car company to watch out for. And with a rumored $25,000 price tag, I mean, this could really give the Z4, TT, and the SLK a run for its money. But please give it a beefier engine than the measly 1.3L four-banger that you are planning to mate with it.

I still prefer the Toyota 86 over the miata. Its a four seater unlike the miata. Powered by a subaru engine that outputs about 200hp. Comes out of the factory equip with a LSD. So basically a drift car out of the showroom.

Its been released here in the Philippines since last month. Price is about 1.5M for the basic model and up to 1.8M for the top end model.

maybe so. but i am not particularly taken with the boxer engine. i don't know why. maybe it's not as tweakable as the good old inline 4. well, if the mx-5 will be released with at least a 2.0L engine, it could easily produce 240 bhp NA what more if you slam a turbo into it which is fairly easy to do. and with the miata's 2200lb heft, that 240bhp (hoping for the best) would make it a pocket rocket. but if it comes out with the rumored 1.3L then i'll forget about it just as quick.

talking about the 86, i am not very impressed with the front fascia however the back end looks very sexy and i dig it very much.
