MSI launched two new graphics cards based on the common idea of a GeForce GTX 670 Power Edition, a standard variant which sticks to NVIDIA reference clock speeds of 915 MHz core, 980 MHz GPU Boost, and memory speed of 6.00 GHz (model: N670GTX PE 2GD5); and an overclocked (OC) variant, with 1019 MHz core, 1079 MHz GPU Boost, and an untouched 6.00 GHz memory (model: N670GTX PE 2GD5/OC).
MSI's Power Edition GTX 670, evidently, uses an in-house design PCB, which could be made out by its length. One of its design goals include providing a stronger VRM than the one NVIDIA reference design PCB offers. We could make out components such as SFC chokes (which don't whine on load), and expect MSI to use top-grade components such as International Rectifier DirectFETs, and Hi-C capacitors, all of which it used on its Radeon HD 7870 HAWK graphics card. MSI claims that the enhanced PWM design on its GTX 670 Power Edition is capable of delivering 25% higher current than NVIDIA's PCB. Its Triple Overvoltage feature gives user fine-tuning ability over GPU, Memory and PLL (Aux) power domains, using the Afterburner software.
The other big feature of the MSI GeForce GTX 670 Power Edition, is the Twin Frozr IV cooling solution. The same solution can be found on the Radeon HD 7870 HAWK. The cooler uses a single large aluminum fin array that spans along the entire length of the card, to which heat from the GPU is fed by five 8 mm-thick nickel-plated copper heat pipes. The aluminum fin array is then ventilated by two 80 mm fans. The Twin Frozr IV cooler features an easily detachable shroud, which allows end users to clean the heatsink periodically, to keep dust away. The fan and shroud are made of dust-repellent plastics. MSI claims its Twin Frozr IV cooler offers temperatures 20°C lower, and is 11.7 dBA quieter than NVIDIA reference design cooling solution.
The MSI GeForce GTX 670 Power Edition is 3-way and 2-way SLI-capable (4-way SLI possible with a future driver update). Its display outputs include two dual-link DVI, and one each of HDMI and DisplayPort. The card is capable of driving up to four displays, and 3D Vision Surround, thanks to the Kepler GPU's revamped display logic. Based on the 28 nm GK104 silicon, the GeForce GTX 670 packs 1344 CUDA cores, 112 TMUs, 32 ROPs, and a 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface that is occupied by 2 GB of memory. MSI did not give out pricing information.
