Default Kaiser Healthcare Long Term Health Care

Getting sick is very costly hence we all need a health care plan. A health care plan can be availed through HMOs or Health Maintenance Organizations. Kaiser is one of the biggest and leading HMO companies in the Philippines and is one of the very few who are offering long term health care.

Why get a health care plan?

Because getting sick is very costly and as long as we're all alive, we get sick. Having a health care plan can cut hospital costs from 50% to even 100%. You can avoid redeeming your investments, pulling out your savings, or resort to debt in paying the bills.

What is a long term health care?

A long term health care policy is a plan that will cover the hospital/medical bills of the policy holder for a lifetime. This is different from short term care policies (which are generally offered by employers and companies) wherein the policy holder pays at a regular interval (normally annually) for the health care coverage.

Why get a long term health care plan?

First, most people's health care plans are short term and are being provided by the employer. As soon as they lose their jobs, they are no longer covered by the health care the company provides. Second, short term health cares normally doesn't cover people from ages 60 and above. Ironically, this is the age wherein illnesses start to come out (or even earlier). A health care plan protects you for the rest of your life.

Kaiser Long Term Health Care Savings Program

Kaiser Long Term Health Care Savings Program is a 3-in-1 plan. It has a health care (long term), insurance (life), and investment components. Kaiser Long Term Health Care Savings Program is only payable for 5 years either monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually.

    Benefits:

Annual Physical Examination: Free chest X-ray, stool and urine analysis, complete blood count, adult electrocardiogram (35 years old and above)

Dental Benefits: Free unlimited dental check-ups to accredited clinics and dentists, once a year free prophylaxis, free simple tooth extraction

Special and Extended Benefits: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Nuclear/Radioactive Isotope Scan, CT Scan, Dialysis, Blood Transfusion, Chemotherapy, and Radiotherapy, Physical/Speech Therapy, Anti-Rabies, Venom and Tetanus Vaccine, Emergency Benefits (Ambulance)

After the payment period of 5 years, the long term care benefit will compound 10% annually. How beneficial is this? Here is a simple calculation for the long term care benefit (for example: P100,000 coverage)

    Coverage after (n) years:

    After 5 years: P161,050
    After 10 years: P259,374
    After 15 years: P417,725
    After 20 years: P672,750
    After 25 years: P1,083,470
    After 30 years: P1,774,940
    After 35 years: P2,810,243
    After 40 years: P4,525,925

*So for example you are 20 years old as of the moment and start paying Kaiser, after 40 years, you'll have an assured P4.5M for your health coverage. The earlier you start, the bigger the benefits.

**Here in Cebu, all major hospitals are accredited with Kaiser aside from Visayas Community.

Kaiser rates are very reasonable and are designed for the middle-class people who either are relying solely on the health care policy that their company provides or doesn't have any existing health care plan at all. How affordable? You can get a Kaiser plan for only P70 a day!

Because of what happened to CAP and some other preneed companies, the government is now very strict in regulating these kind of companies in order to protect the clients and the policy holders.

Kaiser was incorporated and registered with SEC in June 2004 with an authorized capital stock of P160M. It was given a clearance to operate by the DOH-Bureau of Health Facilities and Services in July 2004, the same government agency that regulates and supervises health maintenance organizations.

Kaiser has P160M worth of trust fund when it started. Every time the policy holder pays a premium, 60% of it goes to the trust fund and only 40% is allowed for reinvestment. So worse case scenario, what if the company fails? Policy holders will get at least 60% of the premium that they have paid. What happened to CAP and other companies that failed is that they reinvested 100% of their capital. One of the banks that handles Kaiser's investments is Deutsche Regis. Deutsche Regis is named as the best investment house in the Philippines from 2005 until 2009 by the Fund Managers Association of the Philippines (FMAP).

Is there risk? Yes but risk is present everywhere. Put your money in the bank and you face the risk of closures. If you invest or start a business, you face the risk of failing and losing. If you put your money in the closet, its value will decrease for certain because of inflation and you also face the risk of it being stolen.
