Default Need yer help. Monitor problems.

So I finally bought my rig. Problem is, i didnt have enough money to buy a new monitor along with it. So i decided to just run the cpu through my LED TV. I connected the TV to the CPU with my HDMI cable but it didnt detect. So i tried my old monitor. Same thing, it didnt detect anything. Just plain black. My dad said I need to buy a different Monitor. One that is compatible with my new CPU. Is that true? I cant use my old monitor on this rig? Because it sux that i cant use my cpu right now.

Its not true an old monitor will not work with a new pc. Where did you connect the hdmi cable? onboard or to the gpu? Also, check the led tv settings if the source is set to hdmi.

My dad mentioned that the monitor could be connected two places. Currently im connecting it with this blue wire. AFAIK, not to the GPU so I guess onboard? How do i know?

Connect blue wire to the GPU if the GPU is installed. Connect it to the mobo if the GPU is not connected.

But the blue wire has a different shape from the socket connecting to the GPU.

The GPU socket is DVI, and the blue wire is VGA. The socket on my monitor is also VGA. So so I need a new monitor with a DVI socket?

Check the accessories of the video card if it came with a DVI to VGA adapter. You could use that instead of buying a new monitor.
