Police are now investigating the death of a 14-year-old high school student who drowned allegedly during fraternity hazing rites in Peñablanca town in Cagayan province.
The victim, initially identified as Jaylord dela Cuesta, was allegedly made to drink liquor before swimming in a river, radio dzBB reported Wednesday.
Dela Cuesta was a student of the Camasi National High School. It was not immediately clear if the fraternity's members were from the school.
A
separate report on Pilipino Star Ngayon indicated the incident occurred last Sunday.
An initial investigation showed Dela Cuesta and an undetermined number of fellow neophytes were made to drink liquor before swimming in a nearby river as part of their initiation.
But Dela Cuesta could not swim against the current and drowned, the report said.
