Following their entry into the AIB (add-in board) graphics card biz toward the end of last year, photos of a particularly interesting specimen from ZALMAN have leaked online ahead of launch; a HD 7950 based offering from the company which boldly shows non-reference attributes upon first glance.
The upcoming card, dubbed ZALMAN HD7950-Z uses a custom colored PCB and is paired with ZALMAN's own VF3000 series cooler that comprises a large aluminum fin arrangement with copper heatpipes and two large red LED-lit fans.
This cooler does require three expansion slots however, but it is said to provide temps that are up to 20c lower than AMD's reference cooler is capable of.
The clock rates on this card are apparently left at the reference clock speeds, but with this beefy cooler strutting its stuff there should be no issues getting a solid overclock when taking the manual approach. With that said, apparently ZALMAN is also working on bringing a factory overclocked model to market in the near future as well.
