Tip: Difference between DOTA 2's Beta Key and Retail Key.

Beta Key(s)- This are keys commonly available today. This are the most keys used to play DOTA 2. But, wait.! Guess what! Some players also won/recieve retail keys from steam... haha confusing ba?
It works this way:

If you have a beta key you can only play dota 2 for now, as long as dota 2 remains beta you can still play it using your beta key. Beta keys are released so that chosen people can test the new DOTA 2. Remember the time you were still answering surveys from steam and you won? They have given you the access so that you can run and test the game for bugs and also be familiar with the game.

But, once testing ended and the final version of DOTA 2 is released, your BETA KEYS will no longer access the game. But those who has a retail version of keys will be able to play the game as long as they have that key.

For short:

RETAIL is way better to have than BETA.
Buying beta keys are good but RETAIL is better.

Note: Beta users, play all you can na jud... hapit na release date sa dota 2!!!

Daghan man mga DOTA player not aware kong unsa na ang BETA, kay mostly they played offline games. Or most started playing PC because of DOTA.

Dota 2 is probably going to be free when it comes out so this doesn't really matter. If this is true then there will be no "retail" keys or any keys at all. The beta doesn't cost anything unless you want to buy your access in. So the beta is free. The "retail" version is free. What's the difference?

Dota has been rumored to be free for a long time and with the trend towards free-to-play, there is no indication that Valve will charge for it. So the question is ... where did you get your information that specifically states that Dota 2 WILL NOT be free?

because all of games played on steam are NOT FOR FREE. They will not be releasing it for free. Hear me man, that's why there's a retail key. The free you were saying here is a free taste for lucky gamers to make them spread the news about dota 2. The will stand as the legacy of how good dota 2 was compare to its predecessor. They won't be releasing beta and retail if it's free, Thnk twice man.
I think you don't know a lot on playing on steam.
DOTA 1 is free cause it is only a map for Warcraft 3,. A modded map.
DOTA 2 is NOT. because it is a stand-alone GAME. Why do steam will require it to be played online if it is for free? huh?.
They require signing in to steam to make it secure from hackers. They won't be paying icefrog if it is for free, are we clear?
