This is one game I game I am anticipating for at launch. it's like battlefield, call of duty, GRAW, UT2007 all in one solution -- at least that is what the developers are aiming for.
Games for windows magazine has a review on the upcoming game and so far it looks pretty sweet. Even better at Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (scoring system)
The developers started out as modders of the hit Modern Combat mod of Battlefield. They were hired to work on Battlefield 2 and now quit en masse to create their own name - Kaos Studios.
Feature highlights:
- Big emphasis on A.I. in the single player game -- they communicate with you and each other and act independently
(no triggers, no canned dialogs/reactions). Folks from Monolith (F.E.A.R.) and Relic (Company of Heroes) are working on A.I.
- Eight theaters of war (single player mode which QuakeWars doesn't have)
- Combat pushes to a unified front, which can shuttle back and forth. No running around to points all over the map (same with ET:QW)
- All real-World near-futuristic gear (the type of weapons you see on discovery channel's Future Weapons and Modern Marvels) (ET:QW is sci-fi)
- Destructible environments in single player and possibly strategic points in multiplayer. (PhysX card not required but supported)
- Mix and Match class and roles -- unlike BF games where you sometimes will be forced to play support role like medic and don't get to enjoy much and got sucky weapons.
Here you get to choose classes similar to BF then choose your specialty. Classes are Assault, Heavy Assault, Sniper, AntiTank, SpecOps, Close Combat and Roles are: Drone Tech, AirStrike, Ground Tech, Countermeasures.
- supports modding community and game is easy to mod.
- very good chance of seeing Xbox360 and PC players colliding online (Bring it on!!!) -- if realized, this will be the first of its kind. (hopefully console players won't cry foul)
- Amazingly modded Unreal 3 engine. What was originally intended for detailed enclosed areas gets buffed for huge outdoor battles.
- Leveling is not persistent (bad for some but generally good for everyone) == this levels the playing field between the old timers and the beginners. With BF2/2142 persistence, early players get the upperhand and players who are late in playing the game will be at a disadvantage.
