why countries became poor during the spanish regime? anyone can help me here?
is that for your social studies? heheh
i guess it is typical for conquered countries to be poor because the conquering countries (e.g spain, britain, portugal, etc) take over the operations of the country. they take over the trade, they take over the land, they take over the resources. most of the people there become servants or slaves or have lower positions with very few making it as aristocrats (e.g landowners, public officials).
before being colonized, there was free trade.. after being colonized, spain monopolized trade with the spanish galleons, imposed high taxes, etc etc.
western countries colonize countries for their resources most of the time.... example in asia it was for spices, precious metals and fabrics. hongkong didnt have rich natural resources but it was a great trading port where stuff came from other countries and was traded and shipped there.
south america for precious metals, specifically mexico for silver and kadto other areas for gold, tin, etc.
im just typing this from memory ha so maybe dili jd totally accurate... pls feel free to correct me if im wrong.
most of the Catholic Countries are Poor......

As far as i know, kani mang gud mga Spanish naay crab mentality. Dili gusto mu-successful ilang neighbor. Kung naa silay makit-an mu-arang arang, ilang i-pull down kay nasuya man.
This is one of the reason.
And based on history pud, tanan countries gi-colonized sa Spain and even Spain itself...poor.
majority of the spanish colinized countries became poor. aside from philippines, we have mexico, argentina, colombia, and all countries in south america except brazil, which was colonized by portuguese.
maybe because of their culture.
It is probably because we got the wrong religion.
spanish colonization was more on exploitation only of the land, people and resources, while the british tend to develop their colonies like hongkong, australia, new zealand, canada, south africa (though south africans suffered worse than exploitation).
and of course, religion played a major role too, 'coz it's one of the powerful tools of colonization.
vatican only?? how about france, italy, spain, hungary, poland, czech republic, slovakia?? they are rich countries baya... also, canada...Originally Posted by eax
