Default Hardware Failure...what do you do?

just something to think about...in the event of hardware failure, what do you do?
whats you solution/ideas? share your thoughts...

    situation 1:
your at a wedding shooting a couple. mid ceremony your camera stops functioning. what do you do?
panic? cry? run to mama? or all of the above hehehehe
seriously, what are the chances that our DSLR will fail us in one of our commisioned projects/jobs.
I say its bound to happen one of these days. what should be done to prevent these from happening?

my solution: have a backup camera ready
prevention: have proper care & maintenance etc. replace with a brand new DSLR ever 1 to 2 years

    situation 2:
you move your photos from memory card to pc. then there was an error. data didnt write to the hdd. data lost/corrupt in the memory card.what do you do?

my solution: run a data recovery program and retrieve the photos. dont do anything else to the card till you get the photos back via the recovery program (i can help with this
prevention: get a proper CARD READER. dont trust those cdrking cheapo ones. use copy not move. run one card at a time. use USB on the back of the computer not thru a hub.

    situation 3:
im selling all my 160gb maxtor backup drives to get larger ones. maxtor drive wasa no problem what so ever since ive been using them for a few days while i organize my files for DVD burning but before i could burn them i need to transfer them to another drive. i hookup the maxtor on IDE master1. hookup the other drive on IDE master2. OS in on SATA. i moved all data from maxtor to IDE master2 drive. no errors. accessed the master2 drive and saw all folders & files. format the maxtor. then when i checked the files on the master2 drive (segate) this morning, opening the jpg files they are all grabage files and folders are good but the images are grabage...WAAAH!

my solution: havent found one pa.
this has never happened to me before. none of my techs heard of this before. no one i know has any clue.
prevention: dont use move. use copy. double check files properly. make dvd backup.

anyone here got a clue bout this?? btw, videos and other files are ok. its just the photos are corupt when viewed or opened. file size are intact. everything seems ok. my system is virus free.

a FILM SLR would be a reliable backup =)

situation 3..use a drive image backup software (e.g norton Ghost/acronis tue image) when transferring files to another drive..it's safer that way =)

redundant backup thru DVD would still be the safest method =)

That's weird. If everything hasn't gone wrong with the copying process then the files should be ok.

ERROR 999: BAD EXPOSURE, HORRIBLE LIGHTING, POOR COMPOSITION, WRONG ANGLE, TOO MUCH CAMERA SHAKE, INCORRECT FOCUSING AND BAD CHOICE OF SUBJECT.

Solution: REPLACE PHOTOGRAPHER AND PRESS SHUTTER BUTTON TO CONTINUE.

haven't encountered that sir mark..really weird indeed =)

transferring files thru IDE architecture is time tested to be reliable/error free..i dunno what happened to your jpgs since you mentioned that other file types you transfered were ok.
