I kept one of those red lobsters in the past waaay back when i was starting the hobby ( i bought anything unusual i came across then).

It was agressive, ate plants and screwed up my then dying aquascape. hehe.
Apart from these, it was pretty much boring, spending the entire day at the bottom doing pretty much nothing. (Probably why there isnt any lobster forum until now. hehe. Oh well, to each his own...) I had the feeling it actively hunts fishes at night. O_O but i never verified this. They shed their exoskeletons every now and then when the grow so dont freak out when you see some shell remains. I read the lobster becomes very sensitive at this point when the new shell is still soft. My lobster died when it decided to move out of my tank. hehe.

It ate anything offered; flakes, sinkers, plants, even dead fish.
One interesting thing about these crayfishes (Theyre not really lobsters) is that if you happen to buy a pregnant female, the tank will soon be flooded with minature lobsters (assuming they arent eaten by tankmates). They are extremely prolific in the right conditions that these must not be released into the wild. I think this species is being controlled in some counties. There is also a blue variety although a lot rarer.

    hi Soggy,

great! somebody with real experience on them. hehe.. morag ako pod dah. interesting man gud nang mga unusual db?

ngek! agressive diay cla..hope won't pinch the owner too..dili diay ok naa xa mga tankmates..was planning a green turtle unta together with this lobsters..pero dili nalang..kaluoy unya sa turtle.tiger barbs raba unta ako etankmates sa lobster.pero basin kaunon unya kung naa ang mga tiger barbs sa bottom matulog..tsk3.thanks for the pointers.

is your aquarium setup much like that of fishes? meaning the tank filled with water or just 1/4 filled water and the rest island2 like where the lobsters can come out of the water and have sun bathing in open air..hehe.. what i saw in SM petshop was it was all totally submerged much like a fish..

great! walay problema diay. kaon maski unsa.hehe. that would be a real bonus if ever makabuy jud anang pregnant lobster.cute man jud tan-awon mga babies..miniature na daan ang parents..samot na a babies.hehe. yupz! i've searched online. mostly blue variety man ang ilang gi mentioned.not much of this red variety.

how about the maintenance? dili man cguro cla messy or cge popo like the goldfish.. permi or rarely ra ka ilis sa water sa tank? ok ra ba ang gipabahaw na MCWD as water used? thanks!

I use well water so ive no idea with mcwd water. if it smells of chlorine, then use anti-chlorine or any water conditioner. Just dont add the unterated water directly into the tank and treat afterwards.

My tank before was set up as planted and filled to the rim with water. Lobsters are aquatic and dont need to bask in like reptiles and some amphibians.

Lobsters arent agressive per se, just "leave me alone" agressive. I also didnt notice them being messy since my tank is messy to begin with hehe. Regarding maintenance, i change water around once a month or two (the benefits of a planted tank) but you'd do well to change water every week

Btw, if youre planning to get tigers, get at least 6 or more. They tend to be agressive when kept in a small scholl or even alone. A big number makes them direct their agression towards each other and allows them to establish their pecking order. I dont know if you can mix the other varieties and have the same result though. my albinos never mixed with my regular tigers.

oic, good for you.no well around here after two days or so. there's no more chlorine smell. sometimes from the faucet you don't smell chlorine,at times isog pod iya smell.ok, i'll take note of it.

ah ok.but if the aquarium is not planted..that would be a different story i guess..good.hopefully its less maintenance..kapoy cge change sa water..

yupz! i've read that too on my online search about tiger barbs. must be more than 6.they should school, or else they become aggressive to one another..ok,won't risk mixing other varieties.exclusive tiger barbs lang.hehe..

thanks for your tips and suggestions.much appreciated.
