Default Stop Firecrackers/Fireworks--The Industry Should Change

PHP 800.00 (about USD 20.00) for one "Goodbye Philippines" firecracker. Stupid and wasteful. Traditionally, people use fireworks at the start of a new year because they think the explosions will "drive away bad luck and 'negative spirits' from their lives"--ergo, most people in this country still live in the middle/dark ages.

In a world of logic and reason, the fireworks industry does NOT exist--...what exists in its place is a thriving model rocket industry, for kids who want to learn more about rockets and space exploration--wouldn't it be nice to change the Bulacan fireworks industry (an industry that causes a LOT of injuries every year), to one that actually supports Filipino kids' learning and science education, and encourage them into rocketry and space exploration? I think it's possible, most of the raw materials in fireworks are the same as in solid-fuel model rocketry.

This is my personal campaign to stop firecrackers and fireworks and CHANGE (not end) the industry. One of the usual things they say is that if you stop selling firecrackers, think of the "poor" people who make a living out of making and selling them. Well it's TIME for a CHANGE--let these people who produce and sell fireworks and firecrackers THINK DIFFERENTLY and let them get into an industry that STILL involves stuff they are USED TO (i.e. chemicals that produce explosion when ignited), yet is directed more for learning and education--CHANGE the country by changing the small things first.

Stop fireworks, but encourage rocketry. This is my proposal. If you think this idea is right, like this message and you're free to download share the photos in your favorite social networking sites.

Let's try to reduce firecracker/fireworks related injuries this 2012 and let's all AIM to let kids be more aware and interested in science and technology.

Para sa imoha, aso-aso ra na, pero para sa mga naay leanings and interest in such things, esp. kids, mahimo ni nga pamaagi or dalan para ma interesado sila sa science and technology, particularly space exploration. And gasto-gasto? I just watched on TV yesterday evening nga naay middle-class Filipino family spending up to PHP 30,000.00 just for firecrackers/fireworks, and thus if this is "average", just think of the cost they are spending just to "burn" their "malas" away. Medieval thinking, the BANE of our country. Mas maayo pa, sa same amount nga ilang gi-gasto, gigamit nalang sa usa ka tarong nga demostration of rocketry for both entertainment and practical purposes:

    1. Aerial photography - cheap, tiny cameras are available now--makaplano ka pa against sa baha by taking aerial photos of the place you live

    2. Urban planning

    3. Atmosphere/Weather testing

    4. Entertainment - daghan man ways to be entertained by rocketry--explosions are only one of them. You can have rocket contests (highest altitude gained, farthest reached, preserved cargo etc) and even reality shows based on rockets.

    5. This is more long-shot, pero electronics daw is so miniaturized nowadays nga you can make a small transmitting satellite with the size and weight of a Coke can--so think, if your ECE student can make such a satellite, and you can make staging rockets via solid fuel, put the Cokecan satellite as very light payload, you can actually launch your OWN satellite. A dream? Perhaps, but it's not something impossible--it just needs the right materials and the right people to do it.

Pag makitid ng utak mo, "walang gamit" or silbi ang rocketry, but actually daghang practical purposes makuha diri.
