Overlapping subnets means just that, they're overlapping. 172.16.1.128/25 are overlapping subnets from 172.16.1.0/24 and would result to lost connectivity to the overlapped hosts. To avoid this you need to double check your network addressing scheme as early as the design stage prior to implementing.
