Cop crashes motorcycle into concrete barrier in Cebu City | Sun.Star

A POLICE officer is in critical condition after the motorcycle he was driving crashed into a concrete barrier in the middle of the road on A. Soriano Ave. at the North Reclamation Area in Cebu City Wednesday night.
Senior police officer Reinerio Pareja Cortez, 50, was driving his black motorcycle along the road near Queen City Memorial Gardens when he accidentally crashed into the barrier.
The road, which was under construction, is reportedly poorly lit, making it hard for motorists to see the concrete barrier.
Cortes was on his way to Mandaue City when the accident happened at 9:10 p.m.
According to Manuel Tagaan, record-in-charge of Cebu City Traffic Division, Cortes was thrown from his motorcycle because of the impact, hitting his head hard on the asphalt road.
Cortes, who was rushed to Cebu Doctors’ Hospital, reportedly sustained a severe head injury and is fighting for his life.
The motorcycle was badly damaged.
Cortes was formerly the head of the intelligence division before he became the head of Investigation and Detective Management Bureau of the Mandaue City Police Office.
He was also assigned to head various police stations in Mandaue City, before he assumed his present position as night shift supervisor of the City Public Safety Company.
