Patriot goes after the Mac upgrade market with new line of SSDs by VR-Zone.com

Patriot Memory has launched not only three new SSDs for Apple's Mac line of computers, but also a range of memory upgrade options for Mac notebooks as well as iMac's. However, we're not entire sure what's Mac specific about the products apart from the stickers on the products saying so.



The Mac Series XT as the new SSDs are called is built around the SandForce SF-2281 SSD processor and 60, 120 or 240GB of synchronous NAND flash. Patriot rates the new range of SSDs at up to 520MB/s read and up to 500MB/s write, which falls in line with its other high-end SSDs. Apparently what makes these drives special is the fact that they've been tested by the Apple Developer Compatibility Labs which should at least in theory mean that they're guaranteed to work in a Mac. Interestingly Patriot is stating TRIM support in the specs, although so far non Apple SSDs have not supported TRIM in OS X, so it'll be interesting to see if this feature actually works with the Mac Series XT.



Patriot also launched its "Signature Apple DDR3" series of SO-DIMMs which are available in 2GB or 8GB as well as in a dual 8GB pack. All the modules are clocked at 1333MHz with a CAS latency of 9, in other words fairly regular stuff. Once again, these models are certified by Apple's Developer Compatibility Lab, so they should be guaranteed to work. No word on pricing or availability, but we'd expect the products to roll out shortly and most likely cost more than the PC equivalent product from Patriot.
