Intel leaks the DX79SI on its own website by VR-Zone.com
Look what we found, Intel has been sloppy and put up information about its upcoming DX79SI motherboard – also known as Siler – which will be part of Intel's Extreme series of motherboards. It's not worth getting overly excited about the DX79SI though, as Intel isn't really pushing the envelope with this motherboard, despite it being Intel's high-end X79 model.
First we'd like to apologise for the poor quality picture, but it's all we managed to dig up as Intel didn't include any high resolution images. Secondly, we've included a screenshot to show you that this is indeed from Intel itself and not from some third party source, although the details appeared on the company's mobile site, although we're not sharing the URL, but anyone that knows how to use a search engine might be able to locate the page themselves.
So what are we looking at here? Well, what we have here is the final version of a board that Intel showed off at IDF back in September, but to which some changes have been made. Intel “fixed” the SATA ports, so now there are six instead of four, instead of 10, instead of SAS, all thanks to a few bugs in the chipset. However, unlike its partners, Intel decided not to fit any additional SATA ports to the DX79SI which makes it a fairly basic motherboard considering it's Intel's high-end model. Judging by the picture, Intel did a quick fix rather than re-design the entire motherboard and as such there's no space for extra SATA controllers.
In terms of slots we have three x16 PCI Express 3.0 slots and it's interesting that Intel actually specifies this, as the company is still busy testing compliance due to the lack of devices that supports PCI Express 3.0. There's also a pair of x1 PCI Express slots and a PCI slot. For those looking for a board to load out with tons of memory, the DX79SI might appeal, as it has the full eight DIMMs and Intel claims 64GB/s memory bandwidth with the memory running at 2.4GHz. That said, that only works when you have four DIMMs in the blue slots, stick for more DIMMs in and the overall memory speed is reduced.
Around the back are six USB 2.0 ports, two USB 3.0 ports, a FireWire port and a pair of Gigabit Ethernet ports wired up to Intel network chips and last but not least 7.1-channel audio with optical S/PDIF out and a clear CMOS button. The board also has a wide range of pin headers, but the most important one has to be the one that adds a pair of front USB 3.0 ports. At least Intel went with a passive chipset cooler, unlike some boards we've seen, so it's clear that active cooling isn't needed. Intel is also supplying a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module, as well as a mouse pad and UV reactive SATA cables with the board. We should have a more detailed look at the board shortly, although we just wanted to get this up ASAP, as it's not every day that Intel leaks its own unreleased products.
