Electric Tron Lightcycle from Parker Brothers Choppers

The fans of TRON will definitely appreciate the new eco-friendly Lightcycle from Parker Brothers Choppers.

Currently engineers are carrying out tests of their electric bike. However, soon the bike will hit the roads officially.

It would be interesting to note that in 2010 the Parker Brothers Choppers have presented their gas-powered version of the famous LED Lightcycle.

Although the new bike is not advised for heavy use, the developers say that its 96 volt electric motor allows the vehicle to reach a top speed of 100 mph. In addition, 15 to 35 minutes will be enough to charge the built-in lithium battery pack that will allow the vehicle to register a range of 100 miles before it will require recharging.

It would also be interesting to note that the Lightcycle is available with a TRON-style helmet. With just a flip of a switch, the driver can activate the LED lights on the bike to illuminate its rims and body.

Just like the gas-powered Lightcycle, this vehicle features 22″ x 12″ dual hubless wheels with custom tires, a tough steel frame, and body made of carbon fiber and fiberglass to make the bike more lightweight.

The price for the gas version is $55,000, but there’s so far no word on the price of the electric version.

Sealander – Camping Trailer that Doubles as Electric Boat

This invention was designed and constructed by an industrial designer from Germany. Daniel Straub named his amphibious camping trailer Sealander. The 2-in-1 smart vehicle represents a mix an electric boat and camping trailer.

The concept has already been brought to life and tested. Currently Sealander is being prepared for launch onto the market.

It would be interesting to note that the vehicle can be used to navigate on shallow waters. Its casing is made of fiberglass reinforced plastic enriched with a double bottom in order to prevent sinking if leakage happens.
The Sealander runs on a 5 horsepower electric motor that can also play the role of a source of power for on-board devices. In addition, the vehicle features a removable roof. Once launched, the customers will be able to select from a number of modules.

The standard module will include cooking-washing module, a cooler, heater, table and 2 benches. The latter can be converted to make the deck area more spacious. The Porta Potty-style toilet in such model will be optional. The client will also be able to choose the colors and inside materials.

The Sealander is 389 cm (12.8ft) in length, 160 cm (5.25 ft) wide and 185 cm (6 ft) high and has a weigh of 380 kg (838 lbs). The product page says that the vehicle doesn’t need any special license to sail it in Germany. It is expected to wear a price tag of EUR15,000 ($20,500) with shipping scheduled to start in early 2012.

    Electric Flake Concept Car

Have you ever thought about a vehicle that could breathe like a living creature? Da Feng definitely thought about that and designed a car dubbed the Project Flake.

The exterior of the vehicle features flexible scales able to separate in order to control the airflow and cooling.

These scales can also play the role of small air brakes and offer downforce for the car. Today there are a few vehicles that harness a similar technology, one of them being the BMW GINA concept car.

The idea behind the Flake concept car is mainly a puppeteering system that makes use of nano-tube cables in combination with electromagnetic solenoids used to track, adjust, and increase the performance of the car.

One more interesting feature (in fact the one that made this vehicle appear in an eco-friendly cars blog) is that the scales can also track the sun, acting like solar panels, thus the vehicle is able to generate its batteries much faster.

Eco-Friendly Bus Carrying Bikes to Help Tourists Explore Seoul

    Watch the video
Kukil Han, a talented designer from Seoul has recently posted his latest design of a solar-powered bus called Bike Guide. The vehicle will transport people around the capital of South Korea eco-friendly style.

The concept is very impressive and could really be brought to life and become rather useful in European cities as well.

The designer’s idea was that tourists visiting Seoul can sign up for a tour around the city at any kiosk mounted in the area. The stations include maps with stops along the route so passengers would be able to pre-pay for the service. The payment is made via a touchscreen device.

The eco-friendly bus with several bikes attached to it features solar panels mounted on the roof. At each stop the bus detaches bikes so people could explore the city on their own. After returning to the bus, passengers attach the bikes back and wait until the vehicle reaches the next location.

While riding the bus, people can watch a television that says about the next point that tourists may consider exploring. The same information is provided when people use the bicycles. A small display mounted on the handlebar of the bike provides data on the time of departure, GPS navigation, historical facts and more.

EDWARD – Original Eco-friendly Diwheel Vehicle

EDWARD (short for “Electric Diwheel With Active Rotation Damping”) is another invention meant to make our lives eco-friendlier.

The electric vehicle was designed and developed by a team of students at the University of Adelaide.

The main distinction of EDWARD from other green vehicles is a set of two wheels joined together through an axle and other equipment.

The vehicle features a seat for the driver and driving mechanism. The place of the driver is found between the wheels facing the controls.

    Volkswagen Aqua – New-Gen Eco-friendly Hovercraft Concept

Chinese designer Yuhan Zhang has come up with a very original concept for Volkswagen called The Volkswagen Aqua, which represents a hovercraft of the future.

Graduate in Industrial Design at Xihua University, the student thought that the concept should be made using a lightweight and at the same time a very durable material.

According to the author of the concept, the vehicle could be used in lakes, rivers, coastal water or even on snow.

It would be interesting to note that the CDN Car Design Awards China committee included this vehicle in the “Chinese off-road Vehicle” category.

The Volkswagen Aqua features 2 motors. The main motor obtains power from a hydrogen fuel cell and it is used to drive the main fan. The latter inflates the skirt around the hovercraft and raises the vehicle just above the ground.

The other fans, located at the rear, are powered by individual electric motors. These fans are used to provide forward thrust and directional control. It is worth mentioning that the Volkswagen Aqua can accommodate two passengers.

The Phoenix – World’s First Vehicle Made of Bamboo

Dubbed “The Phoenix”, this eco-friendly vehicle is the world’s first car that is made of bamboo, which means that it is also biodegradable.

The Phoenix is the brainchild of designers Kenneth Cobonpue and Albrecht Birkner. It was built in just 10 days. The developers used bamboo, rattan, steel, and nylon.

The car is 153 inches long. It represents a great solution to one big problem linked with the waste produced by old cars that are no longer used.

Mr. Cobonpue mentioned that his project has the goal of showing the future of green cars by “using woven skins from organic fibers mate to composite materials and powered by green technology.”

The biodegradable skin that the vehicle is made of was designed to last the average amount of time that a person uses a car – in industrialized countries this period of time is equal to 5 years, while in other nation from 10 to 20 years.

In case the user wants to keep The Phoenix for a longer period of time, they can replace the skin, which is quite inexpensive. It is worth mentioning that the car’s frame can be easily adjusted for individual needs.

Currently the designers did not provide any data on the engine or motor of the vehicle.
