Hyper-Sub - World's First Powerboat that Turns into a Submarine

Having the goal of combining the possibilities of a submarine and a heavy-duty, surface-cruising powerboat, a company called Marion Hyper-Submersible Powerboat Design created Hyper-Sub.

The powerboat that can turn into a submarine to allow its driver and on-board guests to enjoy the underwater world, can reach the top speed of 75 knots per hour on top of the water, with its engine being able to generate power of up to 880hp.

The 31-foot powerboat can submerse 250 feet under water and is the world's first small vehicle that can transform into a self-charging, autonomous, one-atmosphere submarine.

U-Boat Worx Launches Mini-Subs for Private Use

U-Boat Worx, a firm with headquarters in The Netherlands, has recently launched an international private program for its line of deep-diving mini-subs.

The company's staff will consult the clientele to determine the submersible that will suit their needs the most. The next step involves the transportation of the vehicle to the client's destination point. The charter price will be EUR75,000 per month (it includes the crew, insurances, parts etc.)

U-Boat Worx can also advise a route for the cruise to those who want to observe the underwater environment.

Despite the fact that the company plans to introduce other craft to its fleet, currently 2 submersibles are available: the C-Quester 3 (for 3 passengers, including pilot) and the C-Explorer 2 (for 2 passengers, including pilot). Each submarine boasts a 360-degree transparent acrylic pressure hulls and air conditioning.

In addition, these machines can operate at a depth of up to 100 meters (328 feet). The fleet is expected to be completed later this year with the launch of the five-passenger C-Explorer 5. According to the company its latest submersible will be able to descend to a depth of 300 meters (984 feet).

All of the submarines from the fleet have an operational time of 8 hours. They can be used not only by individuals but also companies and research institutions.

Company Turns Old Airplanes Into High-Speed Boats

Hydro Lance is a firm that decided to turn old aircrafts into modern high-speed vessels, with narrow pontoons replacing the wings of the planes. For example, the company can transform an obsolete 727-200 intro a stable, high-speed boat that can reach the speed of 120 knots (140mph).

Its HARTH pontoon system allows the vessels to remain stable on water in any weather condition, with long narrow pontoons being able to spread the forces of waves. Such features make it possible for each vessel, developed by Hydro Lance, to provide a smooth ride.

In addition, according to the company, its boats are able to provide up to 7 times the fuel economy per passenger mile

Eco-friendly sandYou - Car that Turns Into Boat

The author of this nice concept used the surfboard as the object of inspiration.

Dubbed "sandYou", the concept vehicle runs on a sleek built-in motor. It also has 4 lifebuoy-like inflated wheels.

The most interesting feature of the car is that it can turn into a boat, and, by using fans, located inside each wheel, one can control the vehicle in the water.

The fans rotate when the wind blows, thus acting like wind turbines and generating clean energy.

The renewable energy can be used to charge the onboard batteries.

Halo Interceptor - Car that Turns into Plane, Chopper and Boat

Philip Pauley is a British engineer that designed a concept car that can turn into an airplane, helicopter or motorboat.

The engineer named his creation Halo Interceptor. The design already managed to win various awards and was also called by 100 Cute "sexy enough on its own just being a car". The Top Speed wrote that the Halo is a car that is "straight out of a sci-fi movie."

But Pauley wants his vehicle to be considered not as a flying car but a "road legal airplane, helicopter and motor cruiser."

"[It] comprises a car component - the 'Interceptor' - and three connecting housings, Halo 120, Halo 46 and Halo 22," explained the engineer.

It is worth mentioning that the 4-seater car features a hybrid engine, 4-wheel drive and can reach a top speed of 311mph (500kph). Halo Interceptor also boasts acceleration from 0 to 62mph in 2.3 seconds and can register a range of 700 miles (1,127 km).

When attached to Halo 120, the vehicle transforms into an airplane powered by two turbofan engines that help the jet reach a top speed of Mach 2, being able to fly at an altitude of 66,000 feet (20,117 meters).

When connected to the Halo 46 attachment, the vehicle becomes a helicopter that can reach a top speed of 185 knots, flying at an altitude of 15,000 feet (4,572 meters).

Finally the Halo 22 attachment transforms the car into a powerboat that can run at a speed of 55-63 knots.

Solar-Powered Flying Sailboat Designed for Renault

    Watch the video:
    Zep'lin by Renault - YouTube
Damien Grossemy is the author of this flying sailboat concept. The French designer, who developed the concept for Renault, decided to name it Zep'lin.

It is worth mentioning that the project is scheduled for 2015, but today it is the symbol of environmentally-friendly design for the famous French carmaker.

The futuristic concept makes use of a number of technologically advanced features that could be used in an electric car, including solar panels installed on top, which, thanks to a smart rudder system, can move based on the position of the sun to harness more solar power. The collected solar energy is stored in on-board lithium-ion batteries.

Due to its vertical design, the floating sailboat can be easy to handle, with the user being able to change the direction rather quickly and land softly without any additional equipment or structure. Watch the video of the concept and feel free to dream big.

Sailing Aircraft - Futuristic Luxury Boat that Turns into Airplane

Designer Yelken Octuri developed a design of a futuristic sailboat that can transform into a plane.

He named his creation Sailing Aircraft. The boat/airplane can put its wings in horizontal position when it is in plane mode, with the wingspan being 377 meters. But when the vehicle is in the sail mode, it positions its wings vertically (185 meters).

It would be interesting to note that Captain Silvan Mariach was the one who commissioned this futuristic Sailing Aircraft to Aerocoche Company.

Besides being able to sail in the sea and fly above the ground, the vehicle offers luxurious space for four passengers.

According to Octuri the aircraft features a Recchia & Husser engine, 2 propellers in its tail and 2 lateral panels that can flip over horizontally, thus turning into 2 small pontoons. Because of the sliding canopy, the cockpit can become completely open.

A flying submarine or submersible aircraft is a craft able both to fly or travel under water.

    History

The Soviet Union tried to develop a flying submarine during World War II. The design could have operated at 150 knots in the air and 3 knots in the water. Metal plates sealed the engines shut. The design never "got off the ground"

In 1961 Donald Reid designed and built a single-seat craft (32.83 ft length) capable of flight and underwater movement, the Reid Flying Submarine 1 (RSF-1[2]). A 65 hp (48 kW) engine mounted on a pylon provided propulsion for flight; a 1 hp electric motor in the tail provided underwater propulsion. The pilot used an aqualung for breathing underwater. The first full-cycle flight [underwater at 6.5 feet (2 m) depth, airborne at 33 ft (10 m) altitude] was demonstrated on 9 June 1964.

The US Navy is reportedly[who?] looking at the Lockheed Martin Cormorant, a drone aircraft launched from a submarine. On launching it floats to the surface and after flight it is retrieved from the water surface; it cannot travel directly underwater.
In 2008, DARPA announced that it was preparing to issue contracts for a submersible aircraft.

    Richard Branson unveils ‘flying’ submarine

The Virgin boss is hoping to break a world record by travelling to the deepest points of the oceans

British billionaire adventurer Sir Richard Branson and explorer Chris Welsh (L) attend a press conference for the Virgin Oceanic Expeditions submarine on April 5, 2011, in Newport Beach, California. Branson and Weslh announced plans to take the solo piloted submarine to the deepest points in each of the world’s five oceans.

The Virgin's Oceanic Expeditions is seen during the press conference. The five dives will take place in the Mariana Trench (Pacific Ocean), Puerto Rico Trench (Atlantic Ocean), Diamantina Trench (Indian Ocean), South Sandwich Trench (Southern Ocean) and Molloy Deep (Arctic Ocean).

Sir Richard Branson poses aboard the Virgin Oceanic Expeditions deep sea submarine. Virgin's Oceanic’s first dive will be to the Mariana Trench later in 2011 and the other four dives are scheduled over the next 24 months.

The Virgin Oceanic Expeditions’ deep sea submarine is pictured. This first sub, which will carry one person, is almost 18 feet long and capable of reaching depths of about 37,000 feet.

Explorer Chris Welsh poses aboard the Virgin Oceanic Expeditions deep sea submarine. Welsh plans to make the first to the Mariana Trench which at 36,000 feet (10,972 metres), deeper than Mount Everest.
