Default Nvidia launches 3D Vision 2 stereoscopic glasses

Nvidia launches 3D Vision 2 stereoscopic glasses by VR-Zone.com

If you don't succeed at first, try again seems to be Nvidia's motto behind its 3D Vision glasses, as the company has announced its second generation of 3D Vision glasses simply called 3D Vision 2. Then again, this is far from the second generation, as over the years we've seen several attempts from Nvidia where the company has tried to convince gamers that they need 3D glasses to get the most out of their games and the company has also launched something of a flash back product in the shape of the 3D Vision wired glasses.

Nvidia is saying that the new 3D Vision 2 glasses offer 20 percent larger lenses and the company has added a new feature called LightBoost with turns up the screen brightness on LED 3D displays to help combat the darkening effect of the active shutters in the glasses. The most visible change though is of course the new design, but it's still very much a love or hate thing. Nvidia has at least managed to shrink the bulk of the battery pack compared to the original 3D Vision glasses, but has at the same time ended up with thicker frames around the eyes and an overall bulkier design.

The company claims that part of the re-design is to help stop light coming in from the sides and that the glasses will fit better when wearing gaming headsets. Nvidia also took the opportunity to add some extra company branding to the new glasses, with a big silver logo on a green background. One issue that doesn't appear to have been widely addressed once again is the issue of those that wear glasses, as the new 3D Vision glasses don't seem to be any more comfortable to wear on top of a pair of glasses, although Nvidia claims that the adjustable nose pieces will make them more comfortable to wear alongside a pair of regular glasses.

Nvidia also offer a pair of wired 3D Vision glasses, although these were announced back in May, but we hadn't had a chance to see them in the "flesh" until now. They have a length of cable attached to the left arm and this has a small USB dongle with a single LED installed in it which will let you know if they're working correctly or not.

As for pricing, the 3D Vision 2 wireless glasses with a USB IR transmitter will retail for US$149, the same price that the current 3D Vision glasses are retailing for and you can get the glasses on their own for US$99. The wired 3D Vision glasses are currently selling for US$99.

We've added a few more pictures of the new glasses from various angles on the next page.
