Default CPU issue - more Cores vs more Cache.

Guys naa mka enlighten nko bout ani nga topic? idk if naa nani nga thread. gi tapol kog ukay gud.hehe

I'm planning to buy a new Proc, and i'm into gaming. mao ni ako gi pilian.

    1. Athlon II X4 640 (3.0G) 2mb
    price: 4,800php(PCX website)

    2.
    Phenom II X2 555 (3.2G) 7mb black ed.
    price: 4,200php(PCX website)

Phenom II has lvl3 cache memory, and Athlon II doesn't. Will lvl 3 cache memory be a big factor if you are into gaming?

    thx daan mga sensei.

It's still 555be for me. It's cheaper, more promising and packs more overclocking potential. Meaning you get a better performance increase from overclocking the phenom.

If you're planning to have this proc temporarily and upgrade later in the near future, get the phenom. If you think it would spend several years sitting in your rig, get the Athlon. Apps are going towards the 'multi-thread' path nowadays

    i'll go for AthlonII x4 640...at least i'm guaranteed of a decent quad core.more cores,more threads..talking about overclocking?...hmmnnn...it ain't bad at all...

BTW i'm using the AthlonII X3 445 and unlock this little monster...
The Phenom line of cpu's are just 5% faster than thier little brother Athlons at same clock speed/same no. of cores in general...

    I was faced with a situation similar to this 3 years ago. Choosing between a C2D E8400 (3.0ghz, 1333fsb, 6mb cache) and a C2Q Q6600 (2.4ghz, 1066fsb, 8mb cache). Price difference was around 1k.

I got the dual core and dili gud ko nagmahay. It was faster with games then. But during that time, pipila ra man ang games nga mogamit ug more than 2 cores and quad core technology was still in its infancy.

Better yet, tigum na lang ka then lahos na lang kas x4 965 para wala nay upgrade2x. 1k+ na lang ipuno nimo.
