Default Stud owner on basis of puppy sharing ???

Hello , a lot of you who owns male dogs offering as stud, sometimes for stud fee and sometimes for puppy sharing. Now most of the time terms are usually done verbally, one puppy to be given to the stud owner (his pick of the litter). There are times when you get only one puppy born or most pups died before release and only one puppy survives.....What will be fair to both parties ? What will be the outcome ? A goodwill compensation for the stud owner ? The lone puppy sold and part of the payment be shared with the stud owner. Or no compensation for stud owner......This topic is shared as one case arise where the bitch owner just refuse to compensate the stud owner. Its also unfair to allow the stud owner to get the lone puppy as the breeder will be at a full loss if ever that materialize. As a breeder and stud owner I would like a feedback
to as to get input to such senario. This will be a lesson for most of us that sometimes a written agreement
will do more good but we have been doing this for ages and puppy sharing is done on merely trust....I have heard stories of some breeders who even try to conceal the birth of their puppies becoz they refuse to give out the pick for the stud. I sincerely hope to hear more from u guys , your take on this topic.... Zwinger von Rottibuhl, Cabancalan Mandaue, Tel. 4207588 / 09189424649. Breeder Edward Boon

For the part sa stud owner bro.. i think much better if mag pa FEE lang cya una during sa mating sa mga dog. para nalang sad assurance niya ba sa pag sogod.. pero makigsabot cya sa owner sa bitch if nahan jud cya puppy share.. he can opt nga e ULI NYA ang FEE to get the puppy.. ana nalang.. i know its unfair gamay sa tag-iya sa bitch.. pero atleast if dli sad ma preggy ang bitch pwede man sad pa usban dba?

I had a case where the bitch owner opt for puppy share but change his mind when the pups were born and luk real good when they turn a month old. Although there were only 3 puppies he wanted to just pay the stud fee. During mating thats where both parties make their agreement either stud fee or puppy sharing, there is a back job should the bitch owner pay stud fee and the bitch dont conceive. These are standard procedures where both parties abide by it. Eventually I send my lawyers letter and the case was settle amicably. He the breeder got his puppies and I got the stud fee but I did not sign the stud certificate as owner of stud as to me he has fail to gain my trust as a breeder and friend. He can have the pups but no way will I put my stud as the sire. I just hope breeders dont do such deals as this is a passion that we all share and call it hobby business whatever, its ones reputation which is priceless. Would you sell ur good name for a few thousand pesos??

I agree with my friend Edward that this topic is very important. For stud owners and breeders to learn and hopefully become mature in related transactions.

    Here's my inputs,
    1. Stud owner should not be forced to accept puppy share as payment. Why? Stud owners has the right to choose which transaction he can agree to accept puppy share based on a) Quality of dam/bitch b) how well he knows the breeder/bitch owner c) his capability to take in a puppy in his kennel.

    2. Stud owners should not abuse clients also. I have heard of some stud owners who demand stud fee + puppy share.

    3. Stud fee should be paid before or right after the FIRST mating. No 'pay later plan'.

    4. Standard practice for bitch not taking (didn't get pregnant) is for stud owner to do a repeat (warranty). But as a stud owner, I require to have bitch brought in front of me to actually see that she didn't get pregnant before the 60th day from the first mating or I will not do a repeat. Repeat session conditions due to not taking of bitch should be agreed upon before the start of the first mating. Usually its standard to have only 1 repeat but it depends on the stud owner.

    5. As a stud owner and breeder, I suggest doing a smear test to bitches on heat to have a more reliable mating start date. You can visit/ask your veterinarian for more details.

    This is all for now...

stud fee + pup share is entirely depending on the agreement of both parties. there could be reasons why stud owner would require such a condition. to me, it wouldnt be an abuse IF the dam owner agrees to it wholeheartedly.

as in my case, i dont do puppy share. i only go for stud fee on my males, reason being - 1) ive been duped several times before by some peeps i initially considered friends, and to let it happen again and again is plain and simple idiotic. 2) so far, ive never encountered a dam here good enough for me to reconsider my stud fee only condition.

Hey we are into this becoz we share a common interest, there are times its hard to tell a friend that your dog is garbage afterall most of us started that way....maybe when we just got started, Its much better now becoz of the exposure in the dogshows and some breeders who contribute to the betterment of the breed in general. There are times when we want to really succeed in our breedings but the females the good ones are so limited, so we intend to explore the possibility of a share only to be in a position whereby friendship can be ruined due to such disputes. There r times when I think if its worth the quarrel for just a puppy when the friendship that we had say 10 years or so.....stud fee seems to be more reliable but there are times its just hard to refuse a friend, u know what I mean.
