Imelda Marcos says blasphemous art exhibit will be removed

Congresswoman Imelda Marcos said she has convinced officials of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) to take out allegedly “blasphemous” art exhibit
Manila: Congresswoman Imelda Marcos said she has convinced officials of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) to take out allegedly “blasphemous” art exhibit following calls from the influential Catholic Church, Catholic secular activists, and a congressman representing Manila at the House of Representatives.
“I was there the whole morning ... I think I was able to convince the CCP board, majority of them, they decided that they will withdraw and take out the exhibit,” said Marcos.
At the centre of the raging debate was Medeo Cruz, whose works, entitled “Polytheism,” represented Christ with a ***** on his face, and the other one showed Christ with Micket Mouse ears.
It was part of an exhibit entitled “Kulo (Boil),” staged by 30 artists from the University of Sto. Tomas, the oldest Catholic school in the Philippines. The show began on June 17 to end on August 21.

    Desecration
“After seeing the exhibit, I was really shocked because it was not at all beautiful . . . it was a desecration of the spiritual symbol for Catholics,” Marcos said, adding, “What they are doing at the CCP now is not about beauty and goodness anymore.”

“They (at the CCP) told me that the human rights of artists to express themselves and the freedom of the arts must be upheld. I told them we have freedom but if exercising it means we could hurt or we could desecrate people’s belief, I don’t think that is right, specially if done at the CCP,” said Marcos, adding the exhibit is against her mission when she erected the CCP as a former first lady in the 70s as “a monument to the Filipino spirit…and a sanctuary to the Filipino soul”.

Reacting to an art work with a condom hanging on a crucifix, Marcos said, “A condom prevents life. And you put it next to God who is the savior of humanity.”

She confessed that she initially refused to see the show.
Meanwhile, Congressman Amado Bagatsing asked members of the lower house of Congress to call for the investigation of CCP officials who allowed the holding of the exhibit.

The work of an insane man
“Congresswoman Marcos said she will support me in developing administrative charges against CCP Chairman Raul Sunico and other CCP officials for allowing the showing of such kind of exhibit,” said Bagatsing.
“There should be a clear distinction between art and the work of an insane man. (At the CCP exhibit) That’s the work of a sick mind. Only a devil can think of that,” assessed Bagatsing.

Dr. Primitivo Chua of the Jaime Cardinal Sin Assembly threatened to file a criminal case against Sunico and other officials, adding they should all resign.

    Offended
Catholic-activist Jo Imbong said that CCP officials “have a liability because they offended the religious beliefs of a country that is 85 per cent Christian”.
Last week, Sunico received letters asking for the exhibit to be closed.

we would wonder if who is behind this...on the first place why these arts had been permitted for the exhibit?

Then kinsa man specifically a leader from the catholic church ang nag-condemned jud ani nga butang personally? seems WALA.
