It's good, but at the same time it's really dumb. I mean seriously..... the characters are having this big drama amongst themselves over the news anchor's principles when they should obviously be running for their lives!

It's meant to be shown that way. The tagline "based on a true story" can be very blurry at times, often just used to sensationalize the film for promotional purposes. But then again, I haven't seen this movie yet so I'll get back to you once I get the chance.
