just sharing... i just found out that the cheapest 1080p 22" non-LED LCD i just bought doesn't suck at all and paying more for an LED-type isn't always better
LED monitors offer several advantages including, thin profile and low power consumption
however, for photography work the older CCFL backlight LCDs has still the edge over the the more common EL-WLED backlit "LED" monitors sold recently
from:
Monitor buying guide - CNET Reviews
"LED backlit monitors have high color gamuts and provide more accurate colors.
Color gamut is controlled by the monitor's color filters and the backlight's radiation spectrum. While CCFL-based monitors typically offer between 72 and 102 percent of the NTSC color space , RGB LED can cover up to 114 percent. EL-WLED does not offer high color gamuts and typically hit around 68 percent of the NTSC color space."
EL-WLED (Edge-lighted White Light Emitting Diode) - the LEDs are located at the edge of the screen resulting in very thin LCD designs including laptop displays. most LED monitors and newer laptop displays use this technology
while RGB LED is the expensive type, it's only found on high-end monitors
therefore, you can actually shop for a cheaper non-LED LCD monitor and get more.
do not just buy an LCD because it's an LED
