HDMI devices connected via DVI

I was just wondering how you connect an HDMI device to a DVI output (i.e. LCD monitor)
I've seen a lot of cables such as HDMI to DVI or adapters but as far as I know, HDMI transmits video and audio but DVI would only output video.
How do we output the audio then?
And would there be any difference in terms of video output given that HDMI is considered the best in digital transmission?
A good example for this is a PS3 that's gonna be connected to an LCD monitor.

Most LCD Monitors don't have an 3.5mm jack audio, unless it's an LCD TV...

sa akong na hibaw.an bro kai naai dvi na puno ang pin mao toy naai audio naa sad dli puno ang pin mao nay wlai audio.. sa ako rana na observe bro ha.. not sure sad ko ana.. hehe

Ako kay LCD monitor lang so definitely, no audio.
Plano ko palit ug PS3 nya wala koy TV. Naa na koy HDMI to DVI cable ang sound na lang ko problema

palit nalang ug speakers bro.. logitech z5500 naa sa gaisano interpace kita ko ganina.. wla lang ko kibaw pila..

Wala sad port sa ps3 to connect the speakers. Wala man gud 3.5mm jack na port.

pwede mana nga ma output ang audio ug video on different medium.

Mao sad bitaw ako gi hunahuna. Wa pa man gud ko ps3, but i think naay sound settings sa ps3 para mu specify kung asa ang output.

Bought a PS3 and connected to Monitor via HDMI to DVI cable
----Video Output > HD. Very clear. 10/10 for video

Indeed there is a sound setting in PS3. Set Audio Output to "Audio Input Connector/SCART/AV MULTI"
Connected the RCA cable to my TV box and sound working great.

in Nokia n8 there is FM transmitter. You can play HD videos through HDMI to DVI and output the audio using FM transmitter.i haven't tried this on my n8 though
