Hello Istoryans!
Here is another topic I would like to discuss with you guys or at least, wanna hear your opinions on this matter!
Multiple Personality Disorder, Split Personality, Dissociative Identity Disorder
Dissociative identity disorder is a psychiatric
diagnosis and describes a condition in which a person displays multiple distinct
identities or
personalities (known as
alter egos or alters), each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment.
In the
International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems the name for this diagnosis is
multiple personality disorder. In both systems of terminology, the diagnosis requires that at least two personalities routinely take control of the individual's behavior with an associated
memory loss that goes beyond normal forgetfulness; in addition, symptoms cannot be the temporary effects of
drug use or a general medical condition.
[1] DID is less common than other
dissociative disorders, occurring in approximately 1% of dissociative cases,
[2] and is often
comorbid with other disorders.
[3]
There is a great deal of
controversy surrounding the topic of DID. The validity of DID as a medical diagnosis has been questioned, and some researchers have suggested that DID may exist primarily as an
iatrogenic adverse effect of therapy. DID is diagnosed significantly more frequently in North America than in the rest of the world
Kani siya is the real person behind the book "Sybil."

Shirley Ardell Mason (January 25, 1923 – February 26, 199

was an
American psychiatric patient and
commercial artist who was reputed to have
multiple personality disorder. Her life was fictionalized in 1973 in the book
Sybil, and two films of the same name were made in
1976 and
2007. Both the book and the films used the name
Sybil Isabel Dorsett to protect Mason's identity, though the 2007 remake stated Mason's name in its conclusion.
Sybil
Flora Rheta Schreiber's novel
Sybil told a fictionalized version of Mason's story. The book stated that Mason had multiple personalities as a result of severe
sexual abuse at the hands of her mother, whom her psychiatrist
Cornelia Wilbur believed had been
schizophrenic.
[2] The book was made into a TV-movie, starring
Sally Field and
Joanne Woodward, in 1976. The movie was remade in 2007 with
Jessica Lange and
Tammy Blanchard as Sybil.
All over the world, this has been one of the crazy reasons or alibi's that people make just to get away from a crime committed! So tell me guys, what is your take on this?
NOTE: When I was working as a Medical Transcriptionist, I was under the TNDDS or Tennessee Disability Determination Services account. What I have typed are documents/recordings by doctors of patients that they have interviewed who would want to CLAIM their disability check because they can't work due to their disability. (In other words, mga tao na uban tapulan ug mgpaka buang or naay disability just to get the government's support for people with disability because they are incapable to work.)
Some of those are LEGIT and some are NOT since the doctors are very keen at observing simple things that people do that give them away as FEIGNING or LYING about their disability.
As for the LEGIT kind, usually they have psychological issues such as this one here.
1 example is a woman who has 4 different personalities. 1 takes care of the children, 1 really knows how to cook, 1 takes the children to and from school, 1 is lazy and just likes to just sit around watch tv and all. Weird, but yes, that is what the patient said.
