Default Asus' TUF Sabertooth 990FX gets pictured

Asus' TUF Sabertooth 990FX gets pictured

About two weeks ago the specifications of Asus' upcoming 900-series AM3+ boards leaked and today the first pictures of the new TUF Sabertooth 990FX appeared on the web courtesy of a Chinese website. The board design is a bit of a flash back to Asus' first TUF board, the TUF Sabertooth i55 and the board has very little in common with the more recent TUF Sabertooth P67 which is kind of surprising.

In fact, the southbridge heatsink is identical to the one used on the Sabertooth i55 and X58 and the CeraM!X heatsinks are also back. The board has an 8+2 power regulation design as revealed in the specifications and once again we're seeing the new split CPU retention mechanism. Due to the extended length of the PWM circuitry the top slot has been sacrificed as the northbridge is also located here, just below the CPU socket.

As such, the board has four x16 PCI Express slots and a single x1 PCI Express slot and one PCI slot. The x16 slots are configured in dual x16 or one x16 and two x8 with the grey/black slot being a x4 slot. Beyond the native six SATA 6Gbps ports, Asus has also added a pair of SATA 3Gbps ports, good enough for an optical drive or an older hard drive.

Asus has gone for a pair of ASMedia ASM1042 USB 3.0 host controllers, one of the two rear ports and one for a front pin-header. One thing that the leaked spec sheet didn't give away is that all of the fan headers bar one (that's a total of five) are 4-pin fan headers which mean that PWM controller fans will work properly. Beyond that there's little to say about the board, as we've already seen the full specifications, although if you're interested in some more pictures, hit the source link.

AMD used to rule the CPU high end market with its AMD athlon 64 FX-55...mglisod gud ug gukod ang PENTIUM 4 extreme sauna...

karon ang INTEL napd ang nghawod sa "high end" segment, but it wont be long until AMD reclaims that spot.

    anything can happen..

Its been a long time since Intel claimed the top spot, I dunno what AMD can release to catch up to intel.. AMD is still waiting for 32nm tech from global foundries while intel is already sampling 22nm with tri-gate.

@fish, Im also hoping that bulldozer at 4 cores can be as fast as a 2500K para Ivy bridge will come with lower prices!

    Looking at history
AMD was Able to compete with intels Q9xxx series with Daneb Phenom 2.
On the next release maybe AMD should be able to to catch up with the first generation of i5.

And up until now the best AMD has to offer only competes with the Q9xxx series and it took them what 4-5yrs to pull something off.

but when it comes to low-mid end range cpu's AMD is owning INTEL so far.

im pretty sure AMD is cooking something for the "high-end" segment..i still remember when i still had an Athlon 64 fx-55 back in 04 and at that time it was the fastest chip on the planet.
