AMD has already a new socket type, the socket AM3+ or AM3b MB, for their upcoming AMD FX Zambezi processors based on AMD’s new microarchitecture, Bulldozer. The socket AM3+ is also known as the black AM3b socket.



1. the new socket AM3+ is indicated by an “AM3b” written on the socket and the socket is color black.

2.AM3+ has faster link between CPU and Power Controller

3. AM3+ will have a more efficient power loadline

4. A reduction of up to 22% of electrical noise

5. socket AM3+ can handle higher current from 110A of AM3 MB to 145A of AM3+ MB.

6. AM3+ now supports the Combo Cooler Retention Module or CCR

the Zambezi/Valencia processors, based on the Bulldozer architecture, & AMD 900-series chipset will give the Sandybridge a run for the money...but don't forget that Ivy is just lurking in the corner

Although the new AMD FX Zambezi processors are supported by socket AM3 motherboards through BIOS update, it is still recommended to upgrade to the new socket AM3+ in order to fully utilize and maximize the FX Zambezi processors.

Yup, not all AM3 mobo can support AMD FX Zambezi. kasi baka makapal yung pins ng ibang batch ng zambezi hindi papasok sa AM3. Mas maliit kasi ang butas ng AM3 compared sa AM3+.


if AM3+ and Zambezi would be a cheaper solution and offers promising performance maybe I'll stay with AMD. pero so far I'm leaning towards 1155 pa. So far Intel is always in the lead when it comes to performance and power. (yun lang nga, Mahal....)

performance and power always come with a price..how can AMD command a better price of their products if they are lagging in terms of performance...
