Finally Released White iPhone 4
Sunday that Apple had finally started shipping white iPhone 4 models to US stores. Already sitting in UK stores, models are reportedly being sent to multiple stores with warnings to hold stock out of eyesight until given the go-ahead. AppleInsider's contacts also saw marketing material for both AT&T and Verizon models that would go up later in the week.
Many tips have put the in-store date no later than April 27 worldwide. Both 16GB and 32GB models should get the treatment and aren't believed to be carrying price premiums over the black originals.
Apple has been almost single-mindedly determined to get a white iPhone 4 into stores before its replacement arrives. The white color was originally unveiled at the same time as the black at Apple's WWDC 2010 keynote, but it was already slated to ship weeks later. Shipments were eventually moved back to the fall before its last delay to a spring timeframe, a claim it has kept up even in recent days.
No official explanation has ever been provided for why the white version didn't arrive on time. Most commonly, it has been unofficially blamed on a poor initial paint mix that wouldn't give consistent color or was prone to damage from long-term exposure to heat. Rumors have circulated of a new paint technique from Japan that solved Apple's problems early this year and cleared it for production in the half-year before the rumored September launch of a new iPhone that may itself need the same painting process.
