Why buy a tablet?

Like the title says, why buy a tablet?

Apple's iPad 1 and 2 have taken the world by storm, and tablets from other big name brands like Motorola and Samsung have started making rounds and getting a fair share of the tablet market. But what is really the advantage of buying a bulky, expensive tablet? What can it do that a reasonably powered mobile phone can't? Aside from the large screen, I can't see any difference between an iPad and an iPhone, and the iPhone has the added advantage of being an actual phone.

So tell me your thoughts, istoryans.

as i see it tru my frens itouch. ipad is bigger than itouch and they have same function. only advantage is usb port ? bigger screen ?

tablet could be strikingly advantageous if u bought a china made tablet and it functions very well . . . because of its prize cost.

I bought an ipad because I do a lot of traveling via planes and trains and I stay in a lot of hotels. I read a lot and i can't read with the small phone screen for too long. I don't want to bring my laptop with me anymore because it's too bulky. I don't want to use my phone for too long when i travel because I don't want to drain the battery.
My brother bought an ipad to keep his kid entertained while at the backseat of the car.

I personally think a tablet is better than any compact notebook and for that, I think it's a step backward. If you really need to, there are always notebook/tablet convertibles. I just don't see the point in this.

I read a lot and i can't read with the small phone screen for too long.

I guess this is really where it all boils down to. Some people just prefer a tablet's bigger screen, and that's understandable. I, however, am perfectly fine with reading books on my phone's 4.0 inch screen. I also wouldn't want to sacrifice my mobility for being able to read ebooks in comfort, since the thought of lugging around a huge tablet doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.

If somebody gives me an iPad as a present, I'd gladly take it though (hint hint).

for reading and work and sometimes games is a good reason.
and as long as you use it a lot then it will justify the price.

is there a cellphone or itouch as such whose size in between from ipad 7inch to 4inch ?
people doesnt ipad like coz bulky, itouch like small for them.

this could be the majority break through, a 4 or 5 inch screen cp ?? !

I think its wrong to compare it with a phone.. why not compare it with netbooks? i also own an ipad.. one of the features that I like with the ipad is the apps..its more portable than netbooks.. the OS of ipad is quite simple to use..
