bros i need ur suggestions..ako computer mo hang2x kung mag.render ko ug 3d model sa autocad even if interior model lang . . and . . kung daku2x na ang file ako gi-buhat sa google sketch-up 3d-model mo hang pud..primary use jud sa ako pc is for architectural softwares and games..

    here's my computer spec:

    processor: i5-760 2.8ghz boost 3.2ghz
    mobo: intel P55WB
    ram: 2x 2gb ddr3 Kingston 1333mhz
    graphics: 1gb ddr2 sapphire ati radeon 4650 128bit
    hdd: 500gb Seagate 7200rpm
    power supply: 500W Cooler Master

duda naku akong graphics kailangan upgrade cguro..im planning to upgrade it to GTX-460 or ati 5770..wat do u think/suggest bros? enough raba ang akong processor and ram? and if mag-upgrade ko GTX-460 or ati 5770, enough raba akong power supply? and lastly ok raba akong mobo?hehehe

if ever ang graphics kailangan upgrade, poslan man nag-upgrade, kana nalang pud video card na pwede dual ang purpose, gamiton naku ang pc for desktop at the same time for home theatre..while nag-browse sa desktop, maka-watch pud ug high definition movie sa home theatre 40" tv at the same time..

It could possibly be a hardware issue on any of your parts or might even be just software, lets try to perform systematic elimination..

Download the following ( use google, or google the terms/features of the software very easy to use )
Memtest86+ , read the documentation and perform maybe memory diagnostic for 1-2hrs just a quick run to see if its the memory having issues
If you are using Windows 7, the built in memtest is even better on Win7.

RealTemp & Prime95, enable round off checking run the smallFTT test say for 30mins see if it hangs also monitor how high the temperatures go with RealTemp.

Post up your results and from here on out we can easily help with further troubleshooting, also if your just browsing websites or idle at desktop does the PC hang?

When using the said software (CAD and Sketch-up) does it roughly hang around the same usage time frame?

Bro, you cannot serve two masters at the same time - Architectural 3D and Gaming. But 2D Architectural and Gaming - Yes. (I think you already have experience this)

There is a big difference if you use a video card specific for 3D rendering v.s. Gaming video card. To simply illustrate:

3D video cards = reduces rendering times from minutes to hours
Gaming VC's = pumps frame rates not rendering times

    Solution:
    1. Get a 3D rendering Video Card
So for 3D rendering video cards, you have 2 brand options: (1) Nvidia Quadro Series (2) ATI Fire Pro Series (kindly google for price and features)

    2. 3D rendering needs more RAMS (your 4GB won't do any kick) for 12GB, it will run smoothly

Here is the build I have done for an Australian who uses 2D and 3D modeling for small boats - its expensive but it will ran 10 to 15yrs without hicups. He is also using space claim for 3D modeling (the specs on their website for space claim is only the minimal to run it, but for big projects, you need the specific hardware)

    Intel i7 960
Asus Board with tri-channel RAM Support
    12GB tri-channel RAM
    Quadro FX 4000 Video Card
    2x Intel X25-M SSD (Raid 0)
    1TB WD Blue
    2x Samsung PX23 LED Monitors
    Silverstone Power Supply 750W

This baby can even ran 3D model scale for a whole mid-sized boat in 10 to 20 minutes.

This video card is what Boxx uses as well: Check the link BOXX | 3DBOXX

The build I had costs lesser than Boxx

im no 3d-modeler or such but sa ako analysis sa imo problem, it might be a memory issue and some pagefile swapping. try to use windows process monitor and try daw to check memory usage and hard disk activity when you are rendering, if u are rendering and memory gets full with much harddisk activity then adding more memory will help u better with rendering...

kana advise ni COMCAM would do the trick.

if low on budget, pun-i na lang na imo ram. gaming vc's wont help sa rendering

Try geting an dedicated graphics card such as nvidia tesla. im very much sure your rendering will finish in seconds xd

A PC can, its made to run several tasks. To a PC rendering for a game or for 3d works is no different at the end of the day its using computational power.

Getting a quadro or firegl will not help solve the lock up issue, I do agree that getting more ram is beneficial for a rendering PC but it will not resolve any of the said issues nor is the correct solution for it.

Im not being rude but you sound like your marketing/selling a solution to him and at the same time advertizing in this sub-forum that you make rendering boxes, which is not a solution to the problem. Dont get me wrong your idea of getting a render box is pretty great but lets focus on the issue at hand rather than marketing.

It does not really solve anything or "will do the trick" the issue here is his computer is unstable and not about it rendering slow.

Again, it will not solve anything.

Read all posts in the thread, the recommended solution has been posted twice already by me and werty.

    processor: i5-760 2.8ghz boost 3.2ghz : - \+ with an X6
Bench - CPU - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News

    mobo: intel P55WB

    ram: 2x 2gb ddr3 Kingston 1333mhz

    graphics: 1gb ddr2 sapphire ati radeon 4650 128bit

    hdd: 500gb Seagate 7200rpm

    power supply: 500W Cooler Master

    ^^ ur rig.

    for a start. that's a great processor. quadcore | 8MBcache

the bottleneck i see is the 500GB HDD

.practically with your type of job, thats just cheap.

invest on RAID 0 with minimum of 32MB + 32MB CACHE 7200 RPM HDD on ur DRIVE C :\ ( OS and 3D TEMP / SCRATCH DISK )have the 10,000RPM if u can.or better yet the intel extreme series on 480GB and 600GB SATAIII

then another RAID 0 on ur WORKING PROJECTS DISK with same 32MB+32MB CACHE 7200 RPM HDD..have the 10,000RPM if u can.or better yet the intel extreme series on 480GB and 600GB SATAIII

then another 1TB | 64MB Cache SATAII for u files.

    C:\ OS | TEMP | SCRATCH DISK : RAID0 SATAII 500GB | 32MBCache | 7200RPM x2
    D:\ WORKING PROJECT : : RAID0 SATAII 500GB | 32MBCache | 7200RPM x2
E:\ FINISHED PROJECTS | FILES ARCHIVE

regarding the VC.. as AFAIK.the main difference between the gaming vc vs the rendering vc is the programming of the GPU cores for specific task.

fireGL | Tesla | Quadro are expensive cards

and that VC u have is a gud entry level gaming card.. a gud DDR5 | 256bit with CUDA | Physix will ease up better the computing needs.

and take advantage of the CUDA Cores | physix at a lesser price

    Google

sell ur card | buy new VC

but invest more on the HDD + 2 x 4GB RAM additional and the PSU to feed the power hungry computing need
