Thread: Linux Virus?

    Default Linux Virus?

I formated a friends laptop for linux mint (ubuntu derivate).. the entire drive.

Now he says he can't edit a .doc file kay naa daw mo flash nga virus 666 something. He opened the file under OpenOffice.

I'm not sure but I think the "virus" is on the doc file and it runs only when the file is access. He thinks his pc is infected.

But I really think its only the .doc file. I haven't seen it yet but I just wanted to share this little info.

I checked the laptop in question and saw some weird folders with a long file name of 66666666666666-something. I deleted the files with such lame file names and the problem was solved.

its not a virus made for linux.. it was typically a virus made for M$ Office and OpenOffice emulates M$.. it was typically a 'stupid virus' one that adds some text as you type in OpenOffice.

But thank you for replying, I really appreciate it!
