Help! How can I block Limewire in the ServGate EdgeForce firewall? Ako na-try blocking its default IP Port TCP 6346, pero wala ghapon coz a new update sa Limewire Pro work now behind your firewall or router. It uses uPnP protocols to make a connection.

Bro, thanks sa effort pero i'm trying to block users in a 100-200+ users network. We have a gateway server and firewall which is Servgate Edgeforce.

    Please refer to www.servgate.com

I've tried contactng there techincal support and followed every single step they've asked me to do so. Yeah, it works with other applications like bearshare, kazaa, ares lite, etc. One application failed me, its the Limewire pro. It uses uPnP protocols that works well in getting thru a firewall.

If only someone could give the idea how to block uPnp or the IP Port it uses...then I would be merry making

May I ask what Operating System does your workstations installed. I believe it is windows XP, if I'm true, you can block limeware application to not being run in the windows system by adding it on the registry. If your network authentication is being served with windows server 2003, then you can add a group policy in order to block limewire.exe and its dependencies. Let me know if you're interested, I'll tell you how....

    Bro,

Yes, Windows XP ila OS, and yes i know limewire can be block on the user end. But you don't have to go to every almost 200 computers to configure their registry. And besides this pc/laptop are their personal laptops. And i'm dealing here with U.S. Nationals, dli pinoy, and they are really concerned with privacy issues.

Usa pud is, I have a firewall device "ServGate EdgeForce" it also serves as gateway,DHCP,DNS server. It has the ability to filter packets pero it only filter using IP Ports. Sooo..Why not work on blocking packets in the gateway instead of going each of the clients workstations. di ba?

Well on that case.. you can push settings thru group policy... that way you will not edit registries on every stations or u can impose a startup script... this way, end users are opt to not run limewire while looking a way to block the UDP and TCP packets.....

    Anyway, goodluck....

    Yes Boss giov,

However, that's the only way on how to block it.. In our organization, I made an IT Security Policy on top of blocking the programs together its dependencies(seguro kong kamao jud ang user, they wud know nga gi block) to avoid users from downloading using P2P and I have scripts that would sniffed on their machines if found by my script. Programs would be deleted and it wud sent a logs for future evidences. THen, HR personnel will give consequences who caught installed the programs. Some sources say that p2p file sharing programs like limewire and Kazaa use variety of ports including 1214 outbound and ports 1214-8000 inbound. To block limewire ports you wud also have to block TCP port 6346 and stop UDP port 6346. However, there is a post in another forum w/c infers that the user can choose the port w/c limewire uses by going thru firewall config of clients limewire.

In my observation, if I blocked access to those ports, file sharing applications like limewire will hop from port to port until they find an unblocked one, will even use port 80 which is port for http or web access. It would take only 2 to 3 hours to hop in after it finally finds port 80 maybe defending how filtering packets complicates. So what I did, I made a script that wud delete limewire or any P2P programs, then plus an IT security policy that wud back it up. Naa jud masakpans, paita aning mga kabs nato.. .... Regarding blocking the executables program in to Do nut run windows it is indeed effective....

@ Erickz101, try terminatorX if it solved the problem, I haven't tried it yet but sumbody from other forum it is evenly gud for P2P.....
