    Default Network setup

    Good day!

Guys, I need help with improving my current network setup. I am using this for internet sharing only. It is working just fine, but I want to improve it.

    I am using Globe DSL.

    My setup:
I am using a switch (Edimax 4 port switch) to distribute the internet to a pc and a laptop. Both are wired.

    My problem:
When the laptop is downloading, my pc's net is becoming real slow. What I want to do is give more internet bandwidth to my PC than the laptop. Something like 90% for pc and 10% for laptop.
Any suggestions on how I can achieve this?

I was thinking of getting a router if that would fix my problem. Please advise and I will ask more questions if I am confused.

get a good router with QoS so you can manage bandwidth usage per user

TY for the reply sir. Is this easy to setup? I am not so good with networking. My current setup does not need any, so I just plug and play. If it does need a lot of modification, can you point out some links I can read?

So I will get a router. Will I still need the modem from Globe? or I will just connect the phone line to the router, then connect an internet cable to my PC and the laptop will be wireless. Dunno if this is making any sense. Enlighten me.

yes u still the need the modem unless you will buy the high ends with built-in modem for DSL. i suggest you go for branded ones like Buffalo, Linksys or D-Link... just browse their websites, sir.

    Bought this router.

Now I have a question about setting the Bandwidth Control Rule Setting.
What will I place under the IP RANGE, PORT RANGE, PROTOCOL (TCP, UDP are options here).

What I want to achieve is have my PC get the most bandwidth. I plugged the internet cable on the first port. The laptop on the 2nd port. (i know it should be wireless, but havent tested it yet so I plugged it).
