Before a seminarian will be ordained as a priest or a sister to become a full pledged nun they are given a chance to leave the seminary/monastery and live a life of a lay person.
REGENCY PERIOD.
Whatever they do at this stage will break or make their intentions of being a servant of God. The period is indefinite from one to three years normally. As a lay person they can engage into a relationship sexual or otherwise. Some will come back and be ordained, others opt to stay a Lay Person but still serves the Church as a lay minister.

Bottom line is, when they decide to become a priest or a nun they will have to make a vow.
The Vows of:
CHASTITY
POVERTY and
OBEDIENCE to the docTrines of the Church or their Congregation

The requirement is to remain celibate after you take a vow of being a priest or a nun.
But no mention if you should still be a virgin or not.
So that's why i'll say 'V' doesn't Matter.

I have a friend, he was a brother of a known congregation. He served well under the tutelage of the Church, and even went to missions overseas.

But, as he was about to take his vows as a full pledged brother, he made a U-turn. He chose his family over the servitude for the Church. At least he is very happy on his decision.
