Default Knowing a Scientist or an Inventor

  2. #2
In my experience, anyone can be an inventor. Mostly engineers are inventors but scientists can also be inventors depending on the field. Nowadays, there is a thin line separating scientists and engineers especially on applied technology like high speed electronics, optical telecom, etc... In most of these cases, a person can be both a scientist and engineer.

Can a mentally-retarded person (i.e. someone with Down's syndrome) learn and do literary criticism on say, Shakespeare?

A mentally-retarded person is still part of "anyone".

Ergo, not anyone can be a scientist, just as equally as not anyone can be a literary critic--there will be those who will never have the mental faculties necessary to have a good grasp of the fundamentals of the scientific method and rational thought.

obviously when a person is mentally challenge they are not be able to grasp the fundamentals of the scientific method and of a rational thought.. but aside from those kind of people i guess there are still those who are not willing to embrace the thought of science.. therefore making it impossible for them to be at least attain a scientific mind.

Your constant problem, Mr. Analog Man, is your limited vocabulary:

Mentality retardation (definition) - Mental retardation is a developmental disability that first appears in children under the age of 18. It is defined as an intellectual functioning level (as measured by standard tests for intelligence quotient) that is well below average and significant limitations in daily living skills (adaptive functioning).

When you say "developmental" (i.e. development from childhood to adulthood), you don't include people who became mentally handicapped AFTER becoming scientists, so again, your reasoning is flawed. Ergo, you were not referring to mentally retarded people, you were referring to the mentally handicapped (which you inferred by saying that the event which rendered the person mentally incapable occurred AFTER he became a scientist), which are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. Try to enrich your vocabulary before engaging in discussions.

How in the world will he be able to "speak out art from your literacy standards" when he can even barely spell his own name, let alone read? Why? Because he/she is mentally retarded. Again, your responses make no sense at all.

i'm cool with that rodsky. it's your own POV again. it's your standards.

no need, you already knew what I meant in the first place.

What's Art for you rodsky? Show me any conventional standards regarding Art.

i don't have problems with that. it's your own risk to take it as right/wrong. you answered it, clearly it indicates that you understood while replying. that's how science works

Point taken. However, you' were not making "points of view", you were expressing things like they were fact... case in point:

I don't think that's an expression of POV, even if what you were attempting was in fact, an expression of your POV. If you were expressing a POV, you would have said: "In my opinion, if he is able to speak out art..."

I mean look at fritz's post...he begins with: "In my experience...", which is quite telling re his experience in proper, logical discourse.

Again, the difference is in the details. Learn the details and only then can you engage in a proper discussion.
