Too early to tell what type.

The flash would usually last for days, but the peak would only be measured in hours, and if photographs were taken during the peak, this is usually the moment of discovery. The girl actually "discovered" it simply by looking at a photo of a region of space, and noting that a "star" appeared where it's not supposed to be. So one way to be good at spotting supernovae is, you must memories how certain starfields, or how some galaxies look like through a telescope.

"I have discovered 3 supernovae in 3 weeks."

    -from your link Rods.

Can we compute the total average of supernova phenomenon each year?

You don't have to compute for it--they are published. And yes, discovering supernovae is very common due to robotic efforts. It's mostly robots doing the hunting nowadays man sad.

You can get KAIT's figures from these links too (i.e. how many supernovas it discovers in a year etc)

There is no computation involved-- 240 million light years means that the light in that event travelled across space for 240 million years before it got to the earth. It's a direct translation.

    - and it could be that the event has happened in the past.. if we could actually go there on that spot there's no supernova that's currently happening.
