Default What if Jollibee bought out Bo's Coffee?

A lot of people had been talking about Jollibee's recent buy out of Mang Inasal's shares. Someone told me that Jollibee felt uneasy about the high popularity and long lines of customers that Mang Inasal attracted. Naturally, Jollibee made an offer that was simply too good to turn down.

A friend of mine, who is an analyst of business, believes that Jollibee's next move in the next few years will be about entering the coffee shop business. While no particular chain has been mentioned, he believes it is reasonable that Bo's Coffee is a leading candidate for acquisition and then rapid expansion.

On its own, Bo's Coffee has expanded beyond Cebu but with a slow pace. As time passes, more local and international coffee shops will be established in various parts of the nation and in nearby Asian countries long before Bo's could make it there. Through a buyout by Jollibee, only then Bo's will be able to expand fast and aggressively. At the same time, the number of current Bo's branches is attractive to Jollibee.

That friend of mine believes that buying out Bo's Coffee makes strong sense as far as business goes.

On its own, Bo's does not have what it takes to expand widely and aggressively. They do have an edge over some regional coffee shops when it comes to having the most branches. They'll need not just a lot of capital but also connections, effective business strategies and insight to compete nationwide. This is where Jollibee (or any big corporation interested on taking part in the coffee shop business) comes in, according to my friend.

The social-climbing policy of Starbucks and their promotion team must really be desperate. Now they float the idea that Bo's will sell out to a company. If Starbucks really is the dominant coffee chain, then why the need to put down locally-based competitors by creating so called "buy-out scenarios". Unless the Starbucks promo boys think that people are already aware that drinking at Starbucks earn them the label of social climbers and they won't be patronizing Starbucks soon. What a pathetic way to promote Starbucks.

A friend of mine prefers having coffee, instead of soda, together with a burger.
