Default Consumer advocates thread... questionable commercial claims...

Here in the Philippines, we are bombarded with TV commercials of products that claim to do this and that.

These companies who advertise their products sometimes get away with bogus claims and misrepresentations due to the lack of consumer advocates.

In other countries like the U.S., they have laws protecting consumers from unfair business practices, fraud, misrepresentation and other bogus activities.

This thread is my way of voicing out some claims that MAY or MAY not be true. It's time someone started a consumer advocacy group in the country to eliminate those companies who are trying to swidle people by selling them or letting them believe in something that isn't real.

To name a few... here are some topics I find to be "Questionable"

    1. Petron Fuel -- We've all seen the commercials.... "go the extra miles with Petron"... a bunch of people are trying to outdo each other by seeing how far they can go on a full tank of gas.... Does Petron's fuel really give you extra miles when compared to other fuels like... Shell or Caltex?

    2. The infamous brand X commercials... all claim that their product is superior to a certain "brand X". If you really are confident with your claims.. why dont you mention the other brand? Scared of being sued because your claim is bogus? Probably... in the U.S. they really mention the other brands and also say things like 6 out of 10 choose our product over this other product... without saying "the other leading brand" or the like.

    3. Infomercials on TV Shopping ... - a lot of products that claim to do a lot of things... we all know that most of these are just junk.,... yet why do we still allow these products to be shown on TV? Again... it's time that consumers take steps to protect themselves from these companies...

Please list down any other commercials which you think are questionable and feel free to prove or disprove commercials which you think are true or not.

Arthro - ngano dili man pina-atras ang linaktan inig human nako tumar hehehehehehehe Joke only

I'm just adding a little life to this advocacy wc is real and relevant!

Advertisements are at times fraudulent all for the sake of getting a sales boost. But since these are sponsored by the manufacturers, we cannot help but see them exercise their freedom to inform in our entertainment media (TV, radio, print, seldom in film).

I think it is common-sensically up to the consumer, try the product yourself and if you are not satisfied with it, do not promote the product by further buying it. Spread the word that you are not satisified with it especially to the manufacturer.

I believe this is the use of the forum - to voice out our rights as a consumer.

We are just thankful that these seldom fraudulent ads cover only goods that does not pose any health hazards. (By the way I think the recent milk formula recall was a wise move for Wyeth.) But what if these were advertisements on non-OTC medicines or vitamins. There is a moral obligation advertisers should follow.

I've heard of cases like Cherifer Vitamins - it never worked for some children.
