COFFEE Cat comes to the Cebu scene from Davao, where it was started two years ago, according to one of the owners, Marie Peluchi Tan. She describes it as a family business, her family’s first venture into the food trade, which has been successful in Davao, and has now found its way here in Cebu.
The coffee used in this outlet, says Tan, is an Italian blend, Illy, which “tastes smooth even if it strong.” Besides coffee, the place also offers frozen yogurt (Yogo, a brand, which is 98 percent fat-free) and which can be had plain or as yogurt tea, and with or without a variety of toppings of one’s choice, among them mango bits, kiwi, sliced almond, grape, mueslix, dessicated coconut, granola, organic honey, caramel sauce and chocolate sauce.
Taken plain or with any of the toppings, the yogurt is delectable with just a slight hint of refreshing tanginess.
The food concept of Coffee Cat, says Tan, is “American” and so it has no rice in its menu. But it does have pastas (basil pesto, Napoletana or “Angry Harry,” which is the café’s name for Arrabiata). They also have a tasty salad, and a few sandwiches. The place also serves breakfast “all day”: an Amercian breakfast, a Belgian breakfast (with Belgian waffles and butter-maple syrup served with eggs, bacon strips and breakfast fruits), and a belly-buster, which uses buttermilk pancakes as base.
Aside from its hot (mainly coffees and teas) and iced drinks, Coffee Cat serves frappes it calls “Avalanche Ice Blends,” with both coffee and fruity cream blends, Yogo smoothies, and waffles.
Coffee Cat offers free wi-fi. It is in IT Park. Suprisingly, says Tan, the outlet, which opened last May, has attracted walk-in clients, not necessarily from the IT industry, including family groups.
The cafe is open from 7:30 a.m. till 2 a.m. on weekdays, and up to 12 midnight on Sundays.
