maayong adlaw fellow istoryans!
just wanna share with you some pics of my recently finished project guitar.

this is how i got the guitar from philmusic: severed headstock.
why did i buy it in the first place? because i have always wanted a yamaha sg ever since i first saw & played one back in college. & having a project guitar was a very good idea for me.
anyway, more pics of the severed headstock:

aside from the headstock issue, the fretboard also needed to be repaired & refretted:

so i took this to a guitar maker i know in mactan for fretboard & headstock repair. here are some pics of the repair in progress:

front

back.
the luthier inserted 2 mahogany dowels at the broken back joint (highlighted in the pic) for added stability. he used wood glue to hold everything together.
i've read in some online forums that a glued or repaired neck joint becomes more stable & is least likely to break again, kung maayo pagkatrabaho. mao gyud daw ni ang flaw sa mga gibson style guitars with angled headstocks. very weak ang joint dapit sa headstock. but repairable, nonetheless.
back of the headstock repainted & installed with vintage style tuners

front headstock with a thin rosewood panel for added support to the repaired joint. with shell inlay & clear lacquer finish

i installed a new set of strings immediately after i got the guitar back (after 4 weeks of repair). i wanted to see how stable the repaired joint was. so far, so good. after some truss rod, bridge, & nut adjustment for intonation, the guitar was playable & stays in tune fairly well.
now, we move on to the electronics...

i bought pickups, pots, & everything else from ebay seller bezdez [
]m.html ? great value and good deals on eBay.ph. i'd like to thank
bryanarzaga for referring me to this site.

i covered the whole control cavity in aluminum foil (ordinary household type) & used rugby as adhesive. this is to provide shielding from outside interference, as well as grounding for all electronic parts.

all wired up & ready to go!

push-pull pots for series/parallel switching of the humbuckers
and finally, the completed project:
