Lightbulb Is the Camera or Lens More Important? A Poll

It's been awhile since I last posted a poll. So for the sake of discussion over coffee.... or whatever you're having right now.

    Our choice for discussion:
Expensive Camera + Cheap Lens VS Cheap Camera Body + Expensive Lens

There's obviously no right or wrong. Some may argue it's the lens because the lens will last longer. Some will probably say a Nikon D3 + 50 f/1.8 will easily trump a Nikon D40 + 24-70 f/2.8 in low light.

Oh well... I'm interested in hearing your opinion. Voice out!

Reminders: Please be diplomatic in all your discussion. Show respect to your fellow iStoryans. No thread crapping. To those who will vote in the poll, I appreciate if you will also share some of your inputs.

PS. I know this has been asked over and over before but this is more of a poll type of discussion.

DON'T FORGET TO CAST YOUR VOTE!

i will always go for lens first. i built up my lens line up before i upgraded my camera body.

IMO, it's better to invest on lenses coz dugay mo depreciate ang value... unlike sa mga body nga pas2 kaayo ang depreciation...

Pero in the long run dapat maka apas sad imong body sa ka pas2 sa imong mga L / N nga lens... so invest jd sad ka ug body...

mahal jd ning bisyoha... hehehehe paetz...

i'd choose: Cheap camera + expensive lens
i've only used extensively one DLSR - Sony a200 (an entry level cam). so far, ang dako issue ra gyud nako kay ang ISO noise. ang uban, na pangitaan na ug workaround. seems a fast lens + good flash + PP will help solve or minimize the issue siguro. maynang hi end lens ug gear nalang gastoan.

para nako, mo pabor ko sa cheap camera body + expensive lens.
ky newbie rman ko, pwedi rako palit ug baratuhon or entry level nga DSLR w/ kit lens.
unya, practice, practice, ug practice ug shoot.

ako, ive tried shooting with both choices at the same time.

    EOS 1D Mark III + 50mm f/1.8 & 85mm f/1.8 (Expensive camera + cheap lens - well not so cheap hehe)
    EOS 450D + 24+70 f/2.8 (Cheap camera + expensive L lens)

Honestly, I like the results sa first choice. In my opinion.

    Then in another instance.

    EOS 7D + 70-200 f/2.8 IS
    EOS 450D + 24-70 f/2.8

I still like the results with the 1D Mark III + 85 f/1.8

and in another occasion I had these two shooting a wedding

    1D Mark III + 50 f/1.8
    450D + 85 f/1.8

I still like the results sa 1D Mark III

In my own personal opinion and conclusion based in my experience. Camera body counts and is as equally important as a good quality lens. If I am to choose between the two options, I'd go with option 1. If I had the money to buy a full frame, buying a good quality prime lens shouldn't be a problem with me later

and just for the info of the readers. I'm an EOS 450D user. The 1D Mark III I had a chance to use is owned by Chrashburn (Lito Inso) when I shoot with him in weddings. The EOS 7D and 5D belong to BeoR (Gerarld Y.) when he was also a guest in one of the weddings I shoot with Chrashburn. I'm a prime lens user so you can see my frustrations with my cheap camera body and the reason for my choice in this poll.

I'd go for EOS 1Ds Mark III or 1D Mark IV + cheapo 50mm f/1.8 any day!

...... mo vignette mana bai! <<< I don't care. I'll fix that in LR nyahaha..

    my vote is A:
A: Expensive body + cheap lens

lenses im refering: 50mm 1.8 and kitlens 18-55mm

    my personal reason:

since i mostly like to shoot sceneries or composed shots (products, food etc..) with regards to low light situation..all i need is a good tripod to go slower speeds and get sharp pictures..i dont need just yet expensive 2.8s..

    Nikon D3 + 50mm 1.8 ohh! sweet

Why my choice? I'm just a sucker for big bodies with big sensors. Never could get my hands around an itsy bitsy D40.

Seriously, who could resist a D3s and a nifty fifty?
