Default References - are they really required? (Resume trouble)

Hate to say it, I've posted a thread here long ago regarding my resume. Sad to say, wala ko nadawat because I wasn't still a graduate. So I stopped looking for a job and worked with my father's company instead.

I am already a graduate. A fresh grad. I graduated last December and its been a while since I updated my resume. But when I checked my references, most of them left the country already. I have like 3, all 3 of them left the country already. It's really difficult to find some references now. My previous teachers back in college either resigned already or has left the country. This has been boggling me lately and has been holding me off from sending my resume to companies.

Can someone help me in this one? Do I really need references? I've did a little research around and it says references are pretty useful especially if you have a previous job already which I don't really have.

I work on my father's company. We have our own HR. We have 2 employees here, which worked with us for 2 years already and their resumes don't have references.

References are really important gyud, boss. In the company I'm currently working for, they asked for a total of six references when I applied last year. ALL of them were called by the company (Convergys).

I guess it depends on the company though.
