Default MS SQL on a UNIX system

    Hi,

I'm planning to put up a UNIX-based database server for a Windows application. If it is possible, what do I need to do for a MS SQL-based database to work on such system? Will data migration be a problem? I haven't heard of such.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers!

Won't extracting the source and migrating to MySQL be easier?

AFAIK, you can't run MSSQL on unix/linux. It's the other way around, meaning.. since *nix systems have ODBC support, you should be able to query networked Windows servers.

In theory, you should be able to run it with wine, but i think you'll be running into a lot of problems there.

You can also run VMware, but i think that would defeat your purpose too

Well, you can't beat the system. It's already in MS SQL. VMWare can be a solution.

But I'm looking for other inputs.

akong ika-suggest bro kay i-migrate na lang totally tanan data to mysql or postgre. sugod ray lisod ana pero once naka-settle na gani, smooth sailing na na.

It seems to be a tedious work.
