Conditioning Your Hair: Tips and Treatments
Great natural conditioners to make your hair even more beautiful
You don’t need fancy, expensive hair care products and conditioners to make your hair shiny and beautiful. With a few simple ingredients you can probably find in your kitchen — like plain, unsweetened yogurt — you can get a full, healthy mane of shiny tresses. Whether your hair is dry or oily, the right conditioning treatment can restore the shine to your hair.
Stabilize an oily scalp. To condition flat, oily hair, start with a cup of yogurt, then add in a few drops of lime juice and an egg white. Whip the ingredients together and apply the mixture to your hair and scalp. The egg whites and lime juice will help stabilize your hair without adding to the oiliness.
Moisturize dry hair. To tame and condition dry hair, add a tablespoon of oil and an egg yolk to a cup of yogurt, and leave it on your hair and scalp for at least three hours (longer if your hair is thick). Shampoo as usual. You should notice a difference in your hair’s softness and shine from the very first application.
Use yogurt daily. Whipped yogurt can be used in place of a traditional shampoo each day to wash and condition your hair at the same time.
Mix in some lemon and egg. Beat together a few tablespoons of lemon juice and a whole egg, then leave it on your hair for at least 15 minutes before you rinse it out. This conditioning treatment will help you add shine to dull hair.
Oil your hair. A weekly oil treatment for your scalp can help you maintain your high-gloss tresses. Warm your favorite hair oil until it is slightly hot to the touch, then massage it into your scalp. Leave the treatment on your hair for at least an hour, then wrap your head with wet, hot towels for at least five minutes. Finally, rinse your hair with warm water.
Try some henna. You’ve probably heard of using henna as an all-natural hair dye and its use in creating Indian mehndi “tattoos,” but it’s also a fabulous hair conditioner. Once a month, take a cup of henna powder and mix in a tablespoon of lime juice and a whole egg. If the mixture is still too thick, you can add in a few spoonfuls of yogurt until it’s easy to spread into your hair. Apply the henna conditioner to your hair and scalp and leave it on until it begins to harden and dry, then shampoo your hair as usual.
