which to u prefer: buying or assembling

i need an external hard drive

im considering quality and the amount i will spend..

these are my 2 options

1. buy a full functioning external HD.. (sort of WD essential/elements etc etc)

or

2. buy a 3.5 hdd and a 3.5 good quality enlosure (SATA or IDE) and assemble it

my o/s is winxp pro

depends on how u use it bro. are we talking mobility or performance?
internal hdds are gonna b faster especially because the data is not bottlenecked by the USB 2.0 interface. external hdds are for mobility purposes but they are gonna b slow. Seeing as there are very few external hdds with usb 3.0, your best bet is to use one with firewire but make sure ur pc has firewire connections.

im gona using it as image pud sa ako mga 20 workstation just in case mugara sila...and 2.0usb lng kc old mobo sad..

main purpose kay back up jud

some1 selling me 4mos old wd essential 320gb for 2.5k isit fair enough or should i assemble?

if mobility bro, use external nalang. you can either go with external drives or external enclosures.
External enclosures are like adapters where u can put regular hard drives on them.
ang external kay hinay jud ni sya bro. Pero if naa gali firewire or eSATA imo computer, recommend ko kuha ug external hdd/enclosures with these connections kay mas pas2x jud ni sila compared to USB 2.0

Pros and cons

external hdd:
+really portable
+lightweight
-expensive storage/peso
-storage is unexpandable

external enclosure
+great value storage/peso
+ability to do RAID and multiple hdd (depends on the enclosures)
+expandability (if u run out of space simply replace the hdd in the enclosure)
-more bulky (you need to buy and connect regular hdds on the enclosure itself)

all my 20 worstation client.. kay gpang clone nako to.. and now since i dont have spare hdd.. ang source data sa 19ws kay gamit n ko sa ikaw 20th WS..

all my HDD kay SATA sila.

buying exteral drive ( enclo or hdd )is my last option for backing up esp ang image..kay wala jud ko back up maskin asa sa 20ws

sir mangau nlng ko final assesment gkan nmu..

asemble or palitan nlng nko tong WD esential na 2.5k

nia if asemble unsa pa ako kinanglan? pwede ang 2.5?

imo the best option jud bro is external enclosure tungod sa expandability ug value niya. pero murag kuwang2x ang budget nimo lang kay you have to buy the enclosure then a hdd pa. pero ang advantage ani kay mas dako ka capacity per peso compared to buying an external hdd.
im not 100% sure but ang mga 500gb external hdd (like WD elements) are like 5k+.
if you had an enclosure, you pay for the external enclosure (mga 2k tingali) pero ang regular 500gb hdd ang ma gasto nimo is only 2k ra tingali. but like i said, ang nindot sa external enclosures kay ma butangan ra nimo ug lain ka hdd kng hurot na. daghan mga enclosures can store at least 2 regular hdds.

i would go for option #1... mga HDD enclosures now are too unreliable unless u will spend more than jst for an enclosure...

much better go for wd elements or similar and not those DIY external hdd's...

dpendi tingali japon sa quality sa enclosure sir wertz. but either of these are good choices tbh.
