I think there is nothing advanced in building a pyramid. Our ancient ancestors are not stupid and idiots, they are just like us in the present time where some of us are intelligent, others are not. One thing they don't have is computers, and other thousand of technologies not available during those era... that's why they improvised, they made crude instruments for measuring the stars and other natural phenomenon, and out of this instruments, year by year, centuries followed, technologies improved...

They are mysterious because most things that happened in our earthly history is lost to us. People tend to forget, sometimes they don't make a written account on what happened during those times.
