Most rockets headed for orbit around the earth are launched eastwards.

The reason why most people fail to recognize it as a rocket, it's because there are not that many popular footages (i.e. from NASA) of rockets climbing to orbit, simply because most of the rocket launch sites in the US launch eastwards towards the sea...



From the map above, you can see that when a rocket flies up from Florida, it heads east (to the right side), over the atlantic ocean, and unless you're on a ship out at sea, at dawn or dusk, you won't see that spectacle as it was seen over China.

The reason why that video was seen over China, is that it's a rocket that was probably launched from the interior of China (one of their secret launch sites) or from Russia/Khazakstan. Since the rocket headed east passed over land, that's why a footage of it was recorded.
