Default i7 970 estimated to be priced at $885

Source: Intel Core July refresh led by six-core i7 970 priced at $885 by VR-Zone.com | COMPUTEX 2010

he second six-core Gulftown CPU, Core i7 970, is expected to release at a whopping $885 in mid-July. Previously, we hoped the i7 970 would fit into the $562 price point, but Intel is not interested in making its six-core offerings more affordable yet.
he Core i5 760 will be an important product, priced at $205, clocking in at 2.8 GHz.
The Core i3 540 will fall to $117, making space for Core i3 560, which will release at $138 in August. Another major change in August would be the Core i7 950, which will finally fall to the $284 price point, putting further pressure on the Phenom II X6 1095T BE.
tsk tsk tsk, So much for an affordable hexacore by intel :P

That's intel for you bay. That's y its really hard to cheer for them when they tend to overcharge customers. And from what i hear, ang new SandyBridge socket nila (yawa kaayo new socket nasad) kay walay native USB 3.0! sato pa mag salig napud ta ani ug NEC controller....
I hope AMD comes out with a competitive high end proc just to keep intel in check

I heard they're also coming out with a 990x next year.

it maybe overcharged, but an intel i7 975 processor is not the same as a i7 920 processor, the higher numbered processors have better chips, (i forgot where the link is will post when i find it, got source)

if you have the money then buy it, i would if i had the money :P Amd's hexacore wasn't even enough to beat the i7 920's, even the Phenom Quadcore was faster then the hexacores.

@andz: AMD still has a big challenge in catching up the the high end market, I agree. Hence my last statement of the first paragraph. But seriously, charging $800+ premium for a processor is just exorbitant whichever which way you look at it. Is the new hexacore very powerful? Yes definitely! but is it $800+ worth more powerful? definitely not..... $500 to $700 would be just right for these imo.

Regarding the 920, and 975 processor, i think you're talking about the article about binning. I've actually read that article.

it all depends on the person, people with money will buy it.

An intel i7 980x processor which has a stock speed of 3.33ghz is actually faster or equal to an i7 920/930 overclocked to 4.2ghz, on many benchmark reviews.

It's like why do people buy 2000mhz DDR3 memory's ? when you can't even compare or gain any differences using a 1600mhz DDR3 memory in gaming ? not even like a 1-2 fps gain from 1600 to 2000mhz++

@andz: true2x but it's definitely useful on productive suites tho.... But at least RAM doesnt cost $1000 though(at least for now anyway). With DDR3 prices skyrocketing it just might! i remember DDR3 costing so much less last year....

    I am totally speechless.....
